A record-breaking contract has been signed between France and the United Arab Emirates Air Force and Air Defence (UAE AF & AD) to acquire a record total of 80 Rafale F4s and 12 Airbus H225M Caracal helicopters.

According to a Dassault Aviation Press release on December 3, the contract for the UAE to acquire 80 rafale F4s was signed by Eric Trappier, Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation, and Tareq Abdul Raheem Al Hosani, CEO of Tawazun Economic Council, the company in charge of security and defense acquisitions for the UAE AF & AD.

It has also been reported by Reuters "on top of the contract for the Rafale F4s, the UAE has ordered 12 Airbus Helicopters H225M Caracal tactical transport helicopters. This giving the contract a total value of €17bn."

The contract was signed in the presence of the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, and Sheikh Mohammed ben Zayed Al Nahyane, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Vice-Commander of the Armed Forces of the UAE.

The UAE will be the first operator of the Rafale F4 variant outside of France, and will be the largest exportation operator of the Rafale fighter.

This deal with the UAE comes as a good ending to a more than pleasant year of foreign export sales for the company. The company signed deals in Croatia, Egypt, and Greece, making the UAE the sixth exportation operator of the French made multi-role fighter.

As reported by Key.Aero at the Dubai Air Show in November, this deal comes as no surprise due to the UAE AF looking for a Mirage 2000-9 replacement for over a decade.

Eric Trappier, Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation said: “The sale of 80 Rafale to the UAE Federation is a French success story, I am very proud and very happy as a result. I wish to thank the authorities of the Emirates for their renewed confidence in our aircraft. After the Mirage 5 and Mirage 2000, this Rafale contract consolidates the strategic relationship that binds our two countries and the satisfaction of the Emirates Air Force, a long-standing and demanding partner of our company.

Qatar already got 23x Rafale which are based at Tamim Airbase which is new airbase.
ICAO code of Tamim Airbase is

QA-0001

France also has offered to morocco the Rafale but RMAF refused.

This is not the ICAO.

Tamim have no ICAO code yet. (4 characters for ICAO)

QA-0001 is a temporary code. Tamim is always under construction. Only a little part of the airport is in use.

ICAO code for Qatar begins with "OT"

I know that the airports begin with OT.
As i wrote the airport is new but i am sure it will be extended alot.

I am not sure if the NH90 and F-15QA will be based there, too.
The Rafale and AH-64E will be based there.

A little bit more complete article than Asdro's news...

UAE cancels Caracal order

As reported by Scramble in the news article of 4 December 2021 the United Arab Emirates agreed with France to place a massive order for almost 100 new aircraft, 80 Rafales and 12 H225M Caracal twin-engined long-range tactical transport military helicopters.

However, now in May 2023, the UAE announced that they have terminated the contract for those twelve Caracals. According to Muammar Abdulla Abushehab, defense and security industry affairs sector chief, the contract was terminated because “we found it difficult to continue the contract due to the high lifecycle cost, the limitations in adapting to modular designs of future mission requirements, and the complex technical proposal”

Abushehab said the cancellation was not a political one, but based entirely on financial and technical reasons. “The company lacked the serious motivation to respond to our demands in order to meet the pressing requirements of the government. The failure to achieve in-country value goals was another factor in the decision to terminate the contract,” he said.

The United Arab Emirates Air Force (UAEAF) planned to use the H225Ms in the Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) and anti-ship role. Contract value was worth about EUR 800 million. It is not clear if the UAE is considering purchasing a different type of long range helicopter.
