I saw one at a Miramar open day once.

Shame I won't be able to enjoy the model. I just look forward to seeing it in MSFS some day.

I think on this aircraft the whole of the vertical stad moves as part of the rudder ..Which is abit special ..

I was wondering about that tail Mark, it is quite special. Now whether I can animate it to do that .........

Yep that is correct. Also the fin and the wing tips fold, if I remember correctly.

Wow. Whilst I would love to have the Vigi in game, I would not expect you to complicate your life just to make me smile.

Don't get me wrong, I will be more than happy to have it, but I will not demand it.

I think that mite be difficult .Tail on the deck at low speeds moves alot but in flight and at higher ground speeds the vertical stad is more sensitive to the pilot's inputs ..The vertical stad is very large and the stresses in flight can very easily cause damage ..I don't know about an trim surfaces on the tail but there must be some ..

Something at the back of my mind rings a bell about it being the first aircraft to have a FBW system. Not like we know today but computer controlled.

Either that or it was a weird dream I had after a grilled cheese sandwich.

The other thing I read was that the two disposable fuel tanks in the bomb compartment had a tendency to be propelled out onto the carrier deck when catapult launched. The trouble was that the tanks were designed to be connected to a Mk28 nuke, as a 3-part weapons train. The nuke was, consequently, very rarely carried I believe!

Sanford was the original home base for the Vigilante, before they moved to Albany NAS (now a brewery) in Georgia. The move to Key West came when Albany closed. There's not much info out there for Albany, sadly, and satellite photos were in their infancy when it closed. This picture from Wikipedia is the best I've found:



Interesting fact: As Turner AAF in WW2, it had 11 runways!

Some years ago I found an old satallite picture of Turner AFB and managed to use it as an overlay over a recent satellite picture of the current brewery. In short I created Turner Afb for FS9.
If people like, I can convert it to a NAS Albany for the A5.

Sadly, I only have European-based retro AI, so am feeling a bit left out. (I wonder though if I could add a carrier group to the Med.)

I've recently had some fun building a couple of museums, hunting down close-as-possible examples for the exhibits. (Further work is required to improve frame rates as some flyable models hurt.) I've found a few more photos on the Abandoned & Little Known Airfields website. Google Earth gives quite a lot of info on the layout, and there are still some hangars existing (along with the base swimming pool!). Enough for a basic recreation.

The airfield ident was KNAB, which doesn't exist in FSX/P3D. (To v4. I haven't checked in v5).

the Abandoned & Little Known Airfields website is always a good spot to look for old airbases. There is also a version for european airfields.

I will get started to dust off my old scenery and transform it for NAS Albany. I already used KNAB as identifier, so that is easy.

Menno, if it helps I knocked this up in the last half hour (P3Dv4 format).

Are we going for Albany or Key West or both? Just thinking ahead to traffic planning. The scenery will need to be for FS9, FSX, P3Dv4 and P3Dv5.
