The old WoAI packages

Post by Jorgen »

I thought this forum would be the most appropriate one for this question.

There are some old World of AI packages still in the download section. Would it be possible for some kind soul to unpackage these and then repackage them into a more modern format, without the WoAI installer being needed?

Thanks for consideration -

Jorgen,

The WOAI installer will for lack of a better term export the components, where you can then manually install the paint and plans.

I am aware of that, and I do have the installer.

But, in order for the installer to work, it looks like you have to have either FSX or FS9 on your system, and I don't have any of those any more, only P3D.

Unless someone knows a trick?

It will not let you go to the second screen and check the box that says "Extract files for manual installation"?

Attached here are 2 screenshots.

The first one shows the screen where I select the package to install - note that the target simulator is greyed out.

The second shows the error message I receive after pressing "Next", selecting "I agree" and then pressing "Next" again.

You are quick. Yes, it did let me do that, but I still got the error.

And it makes no difference if I run it as Administrator or not.

That screenshot is really blurry... I cannot read the error message... Also what happens if you press continue on the error message?

One more thing I should ask have you tried a different package... While I can't read the specific text in your error message I have seen a similar looking box when a program like that does not like the file it is trying to extract / modify... I would see that when using the Alpha-india afcad converter sometimes for example when it hit a .bgl file it did not like... I usually just hit continue and let it got the next file...

I will write the error message out here in a few minutes.

I have only tried it with the MAIW E-3 package so far, and when I press Enter on the error message it seems the installer goes into a loop.

Here is the error message:

"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

Could not load file or assembly 'ICSharpCode SharpZipLib. Version o.84.0.0. Culture=neutral. PublicKeyToken=1b03e6acf1164f73' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."

That sounds more like a file error than an application error; I would:

1. Try the continue button if you haven't already

2. Try a different WOAI package and see if it does work; if so...

3. re-download the E-3 package you are looking for and try again...

I tried to hit continue, the famous Windows 10 rotating circle rotated and rotated for many minutes.

So, instead of the E-3 package from here, I tried the Peruvian Mirage package from AVSIM.

Same result.

I don't know if the reason could be the installer, the one I have is v. 2.4.

I use the 2.4 installer and I can't extract the E-3 package either - I have FS9 installed. Other packages have extracted and worked fine but that one is a no-go.

Glad you got it sorted.
What your problem sounds like is that you are missing a system add-on library to enable the app to work, something like a VB or C++ lib.

I think most likely a VB library, I think I have all available C++ libraries, or at least a lot of them.

But as I believe that most WoAI airline traffic is very much outdated, I would only need the military packages, and this package solved all my needs beautifully.
