One great feature is to use google earth for a airport view, screen print and save with paint or similar and then use as a background to get everything in the right place.

One thing with the background picture though is that I'm getting a slight movement/distortion when drawing on top of it.

Anyone else have this problem?

Hi,finally I've got the time to install it and try some simple jobs.
Unfortunately didn't get what I want.

I know there is a dedicated forum for ADE on FSDeveloper but I'd try here first

In brief:

Opened an existing AFX_xxxx.bgl
Connected ADE to FS9
Modified BGL
Saved the project (.ade)
Compiled it and got an XML error

Shut down the PC and went to bed....

Today, retry some test with other BGL but always get the XML error, plus I can't connect ADE to FS9 anymore.

In attach, the report from Enviroment Checker and the log for the XML error.

Grateful if someone could help.

Bismark,

Can you please run the ADE9X Environment Checker (same program group as ADE9X) and see if all pre-requisites are fulfilled. Thank you.
Cheers,
Martin

Also there is an update available now.

N.B.
Due to the problem I tried a quick mod and save and compile of one of my AFX projects and it produced an error.
I looked at the xml source and I think I found the problem, and I am convinced that its an ADE error.

I will send you the details Martin.

@ Gary
The faults that can be found in the BGL I've modified are not the problem.I try to compile a BGL coming from a MAIW package (LEAB).I've opened it,run fault finder, obviously no fault were found, when I try to compile it as is, without any change, I always get the same problem with XML.

@Martin
Run it.The report is attached to the first post and everything seems to be correct.

Still can't connect to FS9.This didn't happen when I use ADE for the first time. Very strange.

Thanks to all.

We have discovered that this is an issue with null characters (chr(0)) in AFCAD generated files. We thought to have taken care of all places where AFCAD use this special character, but it seems that you have discovered another nest. Please report your issues on the ADE forum on FSDeveloper. Since you may have found the error in different places, it is important to have all your reports.

Thanks a lot!
Cheers,
Martin

Mark,
I had this but was able to work out where the problem was by selecting the line that had the problem, in your case 1055.
Try to recompile and when you get the error set the line number to 1055 and go there.

In my case it was a COMM number, WARTON GROUND appeared as 'WARTON G' in the xml and the compiler will throw it out.
Save a copy of the ADE file, and then go and edit the COMM that caused the problem, if yours is the same, mine didn't need any corrections but saving that, followed by the project again, and then compiling solved the issue.

Its important to save the source file, and the xml from it, so that Jon can work out whats causing the issue.

Hope this helps.
Steve

OK Guys have started a thread on the FS Developer .com site.

The thread is in the ADE Forum .So post any error messages in this thread as the more info they get the better.

The thread is called Error reporting by MAIW members on ADE

The problem you are seeing with illegal characters in XML is caused by Null characters in Comms Names. We found these in AFCAD files and ADE should handle them. However it seems that AFX also generates them and ADE does not get them automatically. If you have a bgl file that shows this problem then I would appreciate a copy of it so that we can test it and work on eliminating the problem before compile.

The work around is quite simple. Make sure that you have Save XML After Compile turned on in Settings. If the compiler fails it will give you a line number that you can enter at the bottom of the Error Dialog. This should show you what Comm the problem is in. Go to Lists > Comms and open the offending Comm for Edit. Save it and ADE should strip any illegal (null) characters. Now the airport should compile.

Remember that ADE saves its projects in its own format and you should not load and save from the bgl.

If I get a couple of examples of bgl files that give the problem then hopefully we can get it fixed quickly so that ADE handles the null characters automatically.

I can only reiterate what has been said before. ADE is a fantastic tool for FS and a leap forward for scenery design. Jon and all the team have done a great job in giving us something to enhance our sceneries to a very high degree. May I also add a massive thanks to Jon who has always answered any question I have had the same day.
I think most people will have found the same response from him.

The manual is a must. Its not what the program can do but what it cannot.

Thanks Scruffyduck an amazing additional tool for flightsimming.
