All the other packs I had tried to install the "FSX Fix" and therefore had their files in a new file in simobjects. These ones, and a few others I had just run the installer and while the flight plans and scenery had gone to the right place, I'm therefore guessing the files are ...

This is an issue that almost all newcomers voice re: FSX. Use the search function to find the discussions on the difference between FS9 and FSX flightplans, and the effects of trying to use both in FSX.
