Bit of Retro EGYT

Post by timbob1 »

Well as it's hot in the med at the moment, so giving Spain and Greece a rest for a bit, and as it's Autumn weather here :D ,LOL, in the UK, I thought I'd start with a version of 46 Squadrons' Thorney Island, remember the Andovers, (I think Rick Piper, is the only one to do a C1 model). So here is the start for users of the FS9 VFR scenery, just an AF2 file for now, may work with default? As always plenty more to do this is a test AFCAD file.

Cool! Is there an AI version of the C1 then? I know about Dee W's HS748 which would do as the CC2.

So how many do you have operating from there and what fps do you get?

I don't have VFR so I will let you know how it looks in normal user mode.

Hi Steve, well about 7 fps with only 3 unfortunately, one could lighten the textures a bit but not by much I would think. There may be some older models about for 98 or 2000 which may work, but these are real nice, Mr Piper has done a superb job.

Ouch! Maybe you will need the CC2's painted up to look like C1's. Not ideal, but it has to be better.

Yeah, thought about that but they look too fat, the C1's looked a lot sleeker.

That they do, the extra length does help.

I had a quick check and the afcad fits nicely upon the land w/o the VFR but it is filled with building all over the runway and field so they would need an exclude at the very least, or best with a VTP file.

I can send you pics if you like.

HI yep please do. Ok then I'll do some excludes for the default version, just added hangers and control tower, very little on the net picture wise?

Most interesting. Where did you obtain the RAF Argosy? Is that Argosy Rick piper's civilian model for FS9 painted in RAF Colours?

The RAF version had a pimple nose and you could only load/unload through the rear 'crocodile' doors. The BEA version could be driven 'straight through, in at the rear out at the front. Very different shaped acft were the RAF and Civvy versions.

Hi Hobby, yep you are right Rick Pipers' Argosy, (minus pimple), and Andovers. It will be quite a basic scenery as very little info I have on Thorney. Hopefully in the future someone might do some retro AI RAF Transports, I may even have a dabble? How about a Beverley?
There won't be any AI with this scenery :( .
Cheers

There are a few options, it depends how 'retro' you want to go?

Some of Mike Stone's aircraft work well as AI; the CalClassic AI packs use his Britannia and Twin Pioneer; and the old TransGlobal Beverley had a non-VC model which should be usable as AI. David Maltby made an AI version of his VC10 (and I think there was another AI VC10 elsewhere) - not sure about a Comet though. Manfred Jahn made an AI version of his York, and I know his Pembroke works well (I have it flying from RAF Wildenrath.

As you can tell I also in interest in 'retro' RAF, so I'm watching your work on Thorney Island with interest; there are a lot of bases which have been recreated, but there are still a lot of gaps, especially overseas.

the other VC-10 was done by JBSim. Last I knew the model was uploaded with some repaints by Mike Perason.
