communication help

Post by Bosshogg »

As a visitor to RODN this morning I discovered that AI traffic does not call the tower for take-off clearance. The aircraft do receive clearance and taxi instructions and taxi to the active with no problems. When they reach the hold short they stop and wait until time-out, never calling tower. Ihave tried switching AFCADS, with same result and I can call and receive clearance from my aircraft. I have checked the frequencies and they are all listed. Any ideas? Help would be appreciated for FS9.

Which afcad do you get this problem with, and which aircraft do not call the tower?

If you know the package that the aircraft came from then that will help some more.

I have the same issue regardless of AFCAD(3), including MAIW default. So far I have observed the issue with based F15s from rodn_267706.zip as well as visiting F16s from RJSM. I will continue to observe other aircraft and haven't seen an airborn call yet to see if it works. Thanks for the response.

Hmmm. I was thinking that it was a afcad comms issue but for it to be from 3 afcads I would think it unlikely unless all 3 used the same comms. The only reason that I could think of is that the frequency is out of the range that is acceptable for FS VHF operations, can't remember the range.

If it occurs in more than one location I would suspect either an FS setting or an FS problem.

Usually this problem occurs when the taxiway isn't properly connected to the runway, but if you say you've tried it with 3 different AFD's then I guess we can rule that out. But just to be sure: do you get the problem on all runways? Have you changed the wind direction to see if they take-off fine in the other direction?

If that doesn't help; AI aircraft also stop when the user aircraft you're following the AI with is on the path of the AI aircraft. So if you're sitting on the runway, watching the AI, they may be waiting for you to get off before asking clearance. If you're using something like Traffic View Board, I'd suggest switching that off and see what happens.

Thanjks for the good replies and suggestions. So I changed the wind direction and velocity prompting a runway change and it got even more bizzare. At the opposite end AI aircraft taxied onto the runway into takeoff position without clearance. I just observed 2 F15s and 3 F16s all on the runway at once. My observations have all been from the other side of the runway, never on it, and either on the taxiway or in the grass and always on the tower frequency. I have never seen this anywhere else. Any other ideas?

Can you send me that AFD please? I'm really intrigued now. :D

This happened with the MAIW default AFD available from files on this website. I just downloaded this one yesterday after I discovered the issue. Trust me, I'm scratching my head also. I checked the frequencies and they are all the same on each AFD.

OK, some new info. to narrow down the problem. The AI aircraft from the west side of the ramp, KC135, E3, and C130 all taxi to 5L/23R and contact tower, receive takeoff clearance and depart normally. So the problem is either with the runway/taxiway setup for 5R/23L or the F15s and itenerant F16s. ???

The taxiway for 05R enters the runway on the overrun, ai does not like this idea and will not call tower.. the runway threshold needs to be brought back to the taxiway [see google] as it is currently too far down... that works for me :)

I'm also convinced that it has something to with the runway connections, as mentioned in one of my previous posts.

I just had a look at the AFD that came with our package and see a couple of potential problems. One of them is the closed taxiway link at the approach end of RWY 23L that should never have been connected to the runway link. Delete that link (the one with the yellow cross over it in AFCAD). Tony also has a valid point, so move the runway threshold by changing the runway properties and make sure the aircraft don't use the part with the yellow chevrons.

Thanks to aljude and tirithon the operations are back to normal at RODN. I moved the 5R threshold back to match the distance on 5L and all AI now works normally on that runway. Thanks for the help guys!
