Installing MAIW into FSX - WOAI Installer Problems

Post by pcremin »

I am following the installation guide as described and have set up the relevant folders as suggested. However, I am having problems installing MAIW packages into the 'virtual FS9 folder. I assuming that the fiules need to be installed into the route folder C:\FS9, but i cannot seems to do this as it requires sub file entry in the path. Can you help me sort this out as I would love to be able to be able to take advantages of the brilliant MAIW packages within FS9. HELP PLEASE!!

Yes, I followed the instructions.

I Created new folder C:\fs9 and recommended sub folders, but when using the installer I don't seem to be able to istall the woai packages into the path that was created. If I manually type c:\fs9 I get a prompt asking do I want to install the AFCADS but then I get an exception error.

Despite what the WOAI installer says, it is not all that compatible with FSX. As mentioned you will still have to convert the flightplans. I have just about every US based WOAI package in FSX working 100% fine.

Choose the FSX path and install the package, like the MAIW FSX Installation read me, I recommend setting a group of folders outside of FSX and manually move them over. After install, I triple check all AI went into the correct locations, and I use AIFP to convert the FP's. I did not set up a separate Simobjects file for the AI, I have them in the "Airplane" folder for now.

Head over to Owl's site (linked in Resources) and download the airliner/GA wingspan xls file. Go through each WOAI AI aircraft.cfg file and verify all wingspan's are set to FSX. Many newer MAIW models are set to real world wingspan vice a standard "45.8'".

What I do is to direct the installer to install the package on my desktop (Create a folder there to use - I just give it a quick appropriate name). For the purposes of these instructions let's assume I named the folder Pensacola. The rest of my process:

1. I open all afcad files in the desktop Pensacola\addon scenery\scenery folder into AFX and convert them to FSX. I then copy the converted afcad files and any other files in the desktop Pensacola addon scenery\scenery folder (delete the FS9 afcad files) and copy the desktop Pensacola addon scenery folder contents to my FXS\addon scenery\scenery folder. If there is a texture folder in the package - place the individual texture files in FSX\addon scenery\texture. Some packages will come with specific folders within the addon scenery folder. If this is the case, I still do the afcad conversions, but instead of installing in addon scenery, I drag the modified package folder with the converted FSX afcad files (example -MAIW NAS Pensacola (KNPA)) into my FSX\addon scenery folder. Don't forget to activate this scenery folder when you enter FSX.

2. I drag the aircraft folders into the FSX\SimObjects\Misc folder.

3. If there are any Effects or Texture folders (texture in the root of the main folder - not any texture folders in the addon scenery folder) copy the folder contents to the Effects and Texture folders within FSX\.

4. Use AI Flight Planner to convert the traffic bgl file located in your desktop Pensacola folder for the package (located in the Scenery\world\scenery folder) and move the newly converted traffic file to your FSX\scenery\world\scenery folder. I instruct AI Flight Planner to add an FSX to the file name so that I don't get confused. If there is a texture folder within the desktop Pensacola package scenery\world\texture folder, copy the contents to the FSX\scenery\world\texture folder.

5. I finally use EditVoicepackX to add the call signs. Don't forget that MAIW supplies voicepack files in vcpmod extension - you need to tell EditvoicepackX to look for that extension.

I started doing this procedure quite some time ago, before the method noted in the Forum was developed. It results in the same thing. This manual method allows me the control to put the files exactly where (and in what format) they need to be. Its more tedious, but I am so used to it, it makes me more comfortable. I hope this helps.
