I remember my first ATC christmas do - the Adj bought in a load of chips and we watched Stripes. By the time I left the squadron, it was a black tie job at the local RAFA branch with the Station Commander and his wife as guests. They didn't stay for the disco though
Would be great if we had a rangeStewart Pearson wrote:Far too much time on their hands. They should be out square bashing, or on the range.
Mumble, grumble goes the former AWO.

What you need to do is get one of your staff to go through the Range Conducting Course at RAF St. Athan, then you can use any range you want mate. (It covers all ranges from .22 indoor right out to fullbore 600+ yard gallery ranges)shaggy22 wrote:Would be great if we had a range

That's not the problem, we have shooting qualified staff and we go whenever a range is available (Leicester TA mainly), the main problem is that we have no-where to put it. The Sqn building isn't big enough to support even a small range and we can't go up because we haven't got the money and we can't go out because we're in school grounds and they own the land outside of the Sqn. And they won't budge, we've tried.Stewart Pearson wrote:What you need to do is get one of your staff to go through the Range Conducting Course at RAF St. Athan, then you can use any range you want mate. Warning: The course is conducted by Rockapes and is a bit of a bugger to do. The week before I did it, they failed a guy from the Metropolitan Police Firearms Unit.![]()

We didn't have a range either mate (also based in a local school) but we had RAF Leuchars about 30 minutes away and Barry Buddon Army Ranges about the same.shaggy22 wrote:That's not the problem, we have shooting qualified staff and we go whenever a range is available (Leicester TA mainly), the main problem is that we have no-where to put it. Pretty much the same, although we (2409) were at Halton and the.22 range was right next door to the sqn building. Unfortunately we only had the stock No.8 .22 bolt action rifle, nothing as exciting looking as the SLRcampbeme wrote:I was lucky at 2030sqn, we were positioned on the Sheldon TA Barracks, which has its own indoor range.
