What is VFA-213's callsign?

Post by Joseph29 »

What is VFA-213's callsign? While looking for it online I found LION, BLACKLION, and BLACKCAT. Which one is correct?

All squadrons will use multiple callsigns depending on their mission that day. So realistically it could be all of those and more. Best thing to do is to look for photos of those aircraft where the photographer has noted which callsign the aircraft was using that day.

The "Blackcat" callsign was from a photo on Flickr. The caption of the photo say the plane was over Afghanistan, so I guess Blackcat is the callsign they use when in combat. http://www.flickr.com/photos/40263244@N04/3701497101/

The other 2 callsigns I found on these websites

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VFA-213
http://www.topedge.com/alley/squadron/pac/vf213his.htm

Any idea what the other squadrons would be?

Thanks for the help guys. I don't know how I missed VFA-154 and VFA-22, I must not of been looking close enough.

I might need more help. I have quite a few flyable military planes that don't have the callsign and I need to add them. So if I don't know them or can't find them I think I will ask for help with them in this thread.

Just one of many callsign lists available on the internet, just don't know how accurate it is but they're usually taken from people who scan the airwaves frequently.

Just PM me a list of what callsigns you're looking for, and I will get them for you.

maddog's list is the most complete and accurate. Deployed or exercise callsigns are used per the air tasking order (ATO), in this case "BLACKCAT" has been exclusively used by -213, they used them on the last Tomcat deployment as well. There is a huge xls spreadsheet that units use to choose deployed callsigns, thousands really and some are quite comical.

VFA-27 using CHARGER is a new one to me. I know that VF-161 used CHARGER, but as they aren't around any more I guess everything is fair game.

They stopped using CHARGER sometime during the early 2000's and switched to MACE

Remember folks, if you need callsigns made for use in the sim, just pop a message in my section "Stewart's Place" in the contributors hangar;

Thanks guys! That is a real good list, there is one missing though VFA-136 - Knighthawks - HAWKS.

For a change of pace do you know the callsigns for these P-3 Orions?

VP-1
VP-8
VP-10
VP-46

And with those I am done with the navy stuff. In a few days I will look up the F-15's and F-16's. I don't have a lot of those left to add maybe 5 or 6 tops.

From what I have been able to find out these are supposedly current.

What is VAQ-140's callsign? I found a website that said it is "stingers" but I think that is a Growler squadron callsign?
