Re: Mother Russia
Small status update.....
Tu-95: done with multi-LOD betas, just finishing up doing the hardest part, modeling the recessed bay sections for the big weapons (Kangaroo, Kitchen, Tsar Bomba). This turboprop FDE has proven to be a pain in the neck, so I have enlisted Mike Mac to help me out with this. Which means, the Bear project got delayed a little later into March, so, in the meantime I have stepped forward with one of the other aircraft, and it is nearly done in single-LOD alpha model form. This is a matched pair from Kazakhstan, a MiG-27 and a MiG-23PD (late tail). The easiest way to tell a 23B from a 27 is two things; the big gatling gun on the belly of the 27, and the very small intake splitter plates on the 27. I might be able to get this one out in March as well, we'll see.

Re: Mother Russia
Hi Mike, about Bear FDE, I'm more than sure that Mike Mac will sort out any problems.
If you want to have a look at something similar, to compare/test/verify the FDE, long time ago I downloaded a Tu-114 for AI, 7 LOD model from 9.450 to 54 polys.
I never tested it, so I don't know how is its behaviour. Probably I downloaded it from Avsim.ru, at present I can't find it.
The file is tu114_ai.zip. If you are interested in testing it and can't find the file, let me know and I send it by mail. (it's only 370k).
Ciao, Giorgio

I've been looking for some production Su-35 paints just recently. Are those already available (can't find anything in the usual places) or are they a work in progress?gvbeek wrote:Where are these guys coming from ?

Re: Mother Russia
The Su-27 paints on this thread are not mine, I believe them to be Ray Parker's, a very accomplished repaint artist. Between Ray and I, I think we repainted pretty much all of the Su-27/35 and MiG-29s around up through the last couple of years, utlizing Sergey's excellent AI models. Although my emphasis is mostly retro, some of my recent and future projects (MiG-23/27 and Su-25) are very much alive and kicking in operational status.

Re: Mother Russia
Thanks Mike but I think you may be wrong.
I have all Ray's Su-27 derivative paints (and yours and some others as well). He updated his Su-34's with the dark grey colours but no others.
Perhaps Gert can recall where he got them?

Re: Mother Russia
Have you checked the ones from AVSim.Rus that I list in my AI Reference?

Re: Mother Russia
I was in error about the MiG-23PD for Kazakhstan, they had a couple of MiG-23Ms and a couple of MiG-23Us, but no P-models. They do, however, have a fair number of MiG-27s, and they are still very much in service. You will see the MiG-23 paint on the U model in the future, though, I do have a couple of pix.

Mike P. was referring to how difficult it is to create a true turboprop AI FDE for his Tu-95 Bear. FS9 does not handle AI FDE's for both VFR and IFR flights of large, multi engine AI aircraft and especially four engine AI turboprops very well, making it extremely difficult to attain a similar level of takeoff, flight, pattern, approach and landing realism achievable for smaller one and two engined AI. As a matter of fact FS9 apparently doesn't even handle flyable FDE's for large multi engined turboprop aircraft very well, so many creators of both flyable and AI four engine Tu-95, Tu-114, Tu-116, Tu-126 and/or Tu-142 models use jet engine based FDE's as does Mehlin Rainer for his AI Tu-114 model that you refer to. This approach helps to more readily get an AI model flying, but now you actually have a jet aircraft masquerading as a turboprop aircraft.
After a lot of tedious and frustrating work I am getting close to having a true AI turboprop FDE for Mike P.'s Tu-95 Bear that allows it to fly both VFR and IFR flights with reasonably acceptable realism.
Below are a couple of screenshots of a flight of two MPAI Tu-95MS Bears:

Re: Mother Russia
Understood
Thanks for the explanation Mike. This means that this Tu-114 has the sound of a jet, instead of a turboprop aircraft.
As I said...

Yes, the MRAI Tu-114 will sound like a jet, not like a turboprop.
If Mike P. chooses to use my AI FDE for his MPAI Tu-95, it will sound like a turboprop like it should.

Re: Mother Russia
Fighter jocks intercepting Bears often said they could 'feel' the props in their bodies due to the air vibrating when closing on one.

I did here that the prop wash was a bit brutal.

Re: Mother Russia
The TU114's used to really rattle the control tower @ YUL when they flew by .Especially when trying to crawl into the sky on takeoff . Even in the elevator 4 stories down you could still feel the thump, thump thump

Multiple sources cite that the Tu-114/95 aircraft, with props which exceeded the speed of sound, were (and still are) the loudest operational aircraft of all time.

Re: Mother Russia
I once stood in front of a Bear when it was at Fairford UK for the first time.....back in the 90ies it was spooling it's engines for almost 30 minutes prior to takeoff..... the noise was deafening!!! Also when it flew in formation with an IL-76 it was waaaay louder than the jet! Amazing plane in short!

Re: Mother Russia
The first time a Bear was detected by NORAD it was thought to be jet powered until a fighter intercepted it and reported back it was a prop. USAF couldn't believe a prop could fly that fast!
