P3D v2.1 and Military AI Compatibilty

Post by Dave YVR ATC »

I haven't seen anything listed really yet on this and though it would be a good idea.

From what I've seen so far the following models don't work in P3d v2.1 and will cause it to crash.

Feel free to add to the list.

HTAI F-16
HTAI Beech C90
HTAI Beech C99
HTAI Beechjet 400 / T1
DW/HTAI Shorts 360
Windows11 Pro
Intel i7 13700K
32gb G.Skill DDR4/3200
RTX 4080

I am slowly adding MAIW to my P3d 2.2 install. Of the models you listed I can verify that the F-16 and C-90 crash the sim. I have the T-1s working fine without crashes so I'm not sure that one is a problem. The other ones you have listed I haven't tested yet. The models can be converted to FSX format using ModelConveterX and even though it's a time consuming process I was able to get the F-16s working except for the canopy animation and a few small animations are lost. However they work and look fine and most important they don't crash the sim. I'm being very careful to only add one package at a time and test each individual model. That way I can tell which model is causing the crash. I am saving the converted models so I can replace each plane of the same type when I install a new package that I know isn't going to work. The C90 is my next plane to attempt to convert.

I have removed P3D due to compatibility issues, Do you have issues with the htai C-130 as well? They have released v2.2, but I don't know if it will resolve any of the issues with scenery and ai. I love P3D, the graphics and performance are so much better than FSX in my opinion.

I appreciate your work and information. I've spent hours trying to figure out why / which series aircraft were the problem. I notice that all textures are DXT 3 and wonder if that could be an issue? Having written that, the Image Tool in the P3D v2 SDK only converts to DXT 5.

I will start working on model conversions.

Other: I've worked at converting the airbases to P3D / FSX. Some, like Henderson Field, have waypoints made in FS9 and don't covert to FSX / P3D. Have you tried adding waypoints to the airport data list? I have been subbing in some random field to prevent crashes - which happened before I subbed an actual listed field.

Thanks again. I hate writing this, but I should have started here first. I hate "should haves".

An update seeing how P3d 2.3 is now out.. Every AI model that I found to not previously didn't work in P3d, now works!

This new version of P3d is a tremendous step forward.
