Air Force Week in Omaha

Post by GZR_Sactargets »

Air Force Week in the Heartland: Tomorrow begins Air Force Week festivities in Omaha, Neb., that will run through Aug. 17. During the nine-day celebration of the service, the Air Force will sponsor events to get its message out and build relationships with the local community around Omaha and nearby Offutt Air Force Base. The festivities will culminate with a "Defenders of Freedom" open house and air show at Offutt on Aug. 16 and Aug. 17 that will include performances by the Thunderbirds air demonstration team. Philadelphia hosted the first Air Force Week in 2008 in late May. The third and final Air Force Week is scheduled for Los Angeles in November.

Usually the static displays are near the Base Ops ramp area. The 135s are in their area which is about 3 Blocks away. If I go out there, I will see what I can get.

Went out there yesterday to pick up some prescriptions. There was a black B-26C sitting near the areo club hangar. Couldn't take any photos.
Arrival days will be Thursday and Friday. I may go out and just sit on the area that overlooks the runways and ramps.

I used to get to see the Cobra Ball when it would come off Shemya and rotate into Eielson for a bit... that was years ago though. By chance I ended up living around them again though and used to see them at Offutt. Beautiful aircraft... but I have a soft spot for the 707 derivatives... minus the AWACS.

I guess my statement threw you, Barry... I didn't see them at Shemya, I saw them at Eielson when they were coming from Shemya. Sorry for any confusion.

I haven't seen any of them(in person) since they put the CFM-56 engines on though... which I always thought should have happened. They looked like the red headed step children of -135 models without them... like an AWACs.

Chris

It did not confuse me, I was just dreaming of seeing them at Shemya in the 80's / 90's ...

I have some RC135 plans somewhere , how u fancy we create our own RC package non MAIW?
