Texture viewer?

Post by swimeye »

Hello!

This may be a noob question  But what utility can i use to view a texture of an aircraft in fs2004? Some are just 32bit and opens fine but some are in another format that i cant seem to open with irfanview for example?

Go to Abacus web page (abacuspubs.com I think), and download the demo version of FSPaint. This is the least complicated way to view textures.

You have to pay for that though mate....

Unfortunately textures compiled as DXT3 format wont show in any default image viewer program they are compiled in such a way to compress them. You can view them by using DXTBMP from here ... http://www.fly.to/mwgfx/ and then opening up the relevant texture from there...you can then save these as normal bitmaps in order to repaint, but make sure you recompile them to DXT3 format again.

I mis-spoke myself... At the Abacuspub.com page download the FSRepaint demo version - it is the 2004/2002 version, but will serve, and is a free download. From the main page at the top select on the menu bar select Flightsim Downloads. It will go to a page where you can find a listing of all programs, so choose FSRepaint. You may have to follow thru a couple more pages, including a register to win a free CH Yoke before you get there, but it is there. The demo is full functional except that the save feature is disables, and you can use it forever to view textures for a/c. I didn't come back on this right away, as I wanted to confirm that it was still available, and it is.

PS, it does support Direct X, ie DST1, DXT3 nad Alpha Channels. Everything you need to view.

Just to correct another of my mistakes, it is not the v1.x demo after all. Even tho it is labled as such, when I installed it to be sure it was functional, it revieled itself to be the new v2.10 (fully compatable with FSX) demo, and works a charm, per my test yesterday pm.
