Does anyone know of an IL-38 May model? Doesn't have to be an AI one - flyable will do.
I know that California Classics had an IL-18 painted to look like an IL-38 but the model didn't have the extended tail boom that I'm looking for.
I haven't been able to connect to avsim.ru all day so I can't check there.
There's a screenshot of an IL-38 on the simviation forums from back in Sep 2007 and I've sent an email to the poster but haven't heard back yet. In case you're interested, here's the post:

Any info would be helpful and appreciated.
Thanks.

Google search shows that http://www.avsimrus.com/ has one in its AI section but I can't connect to it.

The Il-38 is the military version of Il-18 i think.
There is a AI Il-18 on avsim too.
There is the link :

Well, not to be pedantic but that's sort of like suggesting that The P-3 Orion is the same design as the Lockheed L-188 Electra and that you could substitute the latter for the former in your sim with a simple repaint. It is not the same plane structurally. The P-3C has 7 feet of fuselage removed from in front of the wings, as well having as a myriad of internal, external, and airframe modifications - most obviously the sonar boom extension at the rear.foufure wrote:The Il-38 is the military version of Il-18 i think....There is a AI Il-18 on avsim too.
Back to the IL-38 - The IL-38 airframe is stretched by 13ft over the Il-18 and the wings are moved forward. The tail contains a MAD, while under the forward fuselage is a a bulged search radar housing.
Take a quick look at pictures available from posts in this thread and the distinctions are pretty clear.

Hmm, can't seem to get it to "preview". Anyway, obviously "no" tail boom - a truly necessary feature IMO - would you think P-3C if you saw one without it's boom?
In the end, I've decided to use the "flyable" model that was linked to - after removing the panel and sound files. Unfortunately, they didn't model the undernose radome, but they did include the absolutely necessary tail boom. Sigh.
As a matter of fact, I've already installed some and have a dozen or so flying out of Severomorsk, Vladivostok and Petropavlovsk-Yelizovo along with some old and out of date Be-12s just because I like these old beasts, um flying boats (yeah, yeah, flying boats, that's the ticket!).
Thanks for all the assistance guys.
Ford.
