I had a thought, it probably has been done already I don't know but I gave it a try.
What I did was move ALL the traffic files from the Scenery/World/Scenery folder to a new folder.
I placed a new folder in the Addon Scenery, I called it AI Traffic, then I put another folder inside that called Scenery, in that I placed all the traffic files I moved from the default world folder, I started the sim went to add new scenery, activated it and saved it the normal way then started the sim and there was the traffic.
So the new folder path is: Addon Scenery/AI Traffic/Scenery
I doubt it is making much difference to the way it runs normaly but I'm now wondering if another place could be used, may be not even in the sim, like some of these other add on programs work?
AI Traffic in Addon Scenery folder.

Obviously if the traffic BGL files are not in the scenery folders the traffic will not show up in the sim.
How about moving one set of traffic BGL files to a non-active (backup) folder and moving an alternate set to the active scenery folder before starting the sim? This way you should be able to use different traffic sets.

Geez! I feel a bit of an idiot, all this time it is already being done by that genius Tom Gibson of Cal Classics.
Tom does the very same thing, he has 3 seperate (era) traffic folders in the Addon Scenery, if you want a certain era you disable the other 2 and select the one you want to fly in.
I tried this with his files and selected an early era, all I got was prop liners, then I disabled that file and selected a modern era and I got the jets, brilliant!!!
So all credit to Tom Gibson.
So this way instead of having multiple installs you can have the traffic folders in the Addon Scenery and do it like this.

So, I'm thinking that you could also add in all scenerys of a particular era into the same folder as the traffic, and the sceneries would only show up when that particular folder is activated. Yes in deed, a wonderful idea! Gonna save me a bunch of bucks and time as I was going to buy separate external drives to support each era with a complete separate install of fs9.
Now, I think that I will just have a separate external drive for fs9, and one for fsx, to allow plenty of disk space for the sceneries and other add-ons, etc - oh great.

Hi Ronnie,
Yes it works fine, for example in one folder I have it named 'Modern AI' and in that folder I have another folder named 'Scenery' in that folder I have all the modern ai BGL's.
Then in another Folder I have older prop aircraft named 'CalClassic Traffic 1957' and in that a 'Scenery' folder with the 1957 era BGL's.
Same with a 1959 and a 1962 Classic folders, the only problem to this is IF you have different AFCADS/Scenery for thos eras then multiple installs is better, but if not this way saves a lot of space.
You just have to remember to activate the era you want and de-activate the era/s you don't want then restart the sim.
