AFCAD parking radius

Post by garysted »

Hi all,

Something that has been confusing me this week while revamping my AI set up has been how some AI aircraft will not appear or park at their correctly assigned parking slots - even if the radius is more than large enough for what AFCAD says is their aircraft radius. An example would be the Aggressor F-15's at Nellis when I tried to edit the new scenery and AFCAD into my own parking codes. The NBAI F-15s with the repaints from AVSIM have a radius of 12m according to AFCAD, so I allocated some of the 32ish radius parking to them as that was the size already in the AFCAD and seemed more than large enough. They would not appear there at all, even after using a different parking code set up. Yet every time they would appear at unallocated parking with a radius which from memory was about the 35-40ish mark. The only way I got them to go where they should go was to make their parking the same size or larger than all the unallocated spots on the AFCAD.

A similar thing has just happend on my ongoing project to write more accurate flightplans for the PAI C-17 packs. I was doing McChord and noticed that only two C-17s appeared at the same time on the ground, even when my flightplanning required more to be there. The AFCAD I was using showed many parking slots allocated correctly at 120m radius, and AFCAD says that the radius for the C-17 was 44m, more than enough. The two working spots at McChord were the only two at 145m radius, so as soon as I changed all the others to that size all the missing C-17s suddenly appeared. This also explains some of the peculiar parking at Mildenhall I've noticed.

Can anybody offer any ideas, as I'm thinking the only logical answer is that the parking radius shown in AFCAD is completely misleading...

Gary, I may be rashly over simplistic here but you haven't got your afcad parking radius in feet have you?
To check go into Tools ... Options and make sure that the Metric Parking Radius is ticked. Then the parking spots will be metres rather than feet. For example 32 feet converts to 9.75m and therefore the F-15s can't use it. 40 ft would be just over 12m.

Steve,

Exactly what was happening! I'd never even noticed that the scales were in different measurements. That's two time consuming problems that this forum has solved for me in a matter of minutes once I'd posted - many thanks.
