Textures
Re: Textures
Well I think this is quite a complex topic.
What in particular are you interested in?
Texture mapping, layout of the texture sheet?
Texture formats?
creating the bitmap, effects?
...
A good start might be the Modelling and Texturing sections of the FSDeveloper wiki:
http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.p ... =Main_Page
Personally I learned a lot from the Texturing a GMax building video tutorial by Bill Womack.

An excellent source for textures for creating scenery objects is

Re: Textures
Gary, I am about to start up some more on my KNFW project. If you like, we could do a GoTo Meeting and I could show you what I do for modeling and textures. I'm no expert but I have asked a lot of questions! I used FSDS and PSP 9.Garysb wrote:Can someone guide me through making textures for Scenery design please or point me in the right direction

Re: Textures
Gary a hint I can give you is to get a hold of a good scenery package, then using DXTBmp to convert the textures, go through and look at the individual textures that the author has used for the scenery objects. You can really learn a lot just by seeing how others have made their textures. Their really is no secret to it, just hard work. Shading and shadowing are your best friends. Wescotty really has a good knack for making use of shading and shadowing on his aircraft textures. The same techniques apply to scenery as well.
Most scenery textures will be in either DXT1 or DXT3 format, so that's why you have to convert them to a straight .bmp format to view them in something like PSP or Photoshop.
Many of my textures are taken directly from digital photographs and then edited if need be from there.
