RED FLAG

Post by cobbcfi »

I am new to this site, but am a flightsim junkie since FS95... You can search me on FlightSim.com and sometimes Avsim.com (which is kindof a pain in the ass to upload to).. I am a real world commercial pilot with 1400 hours under my belt and still cannot help but to fly flightsim when I have my down time.. I have done everything from flightplans, to some awesome scenery to aircraft repaints and more..

One thing that has not, and for the foreseeable future will not be done, is the Red Flag training exercise out of Nellis AFB that happens annually...

With the approval from MAIW and the aircraft painters associated with MAIW packages, I would like to create flightplans and airports (to hide the aircraft when they should be on mission) and redesign Nellis AFB to support such a package..\

Due to limitations of FSX, I cannot make this a 2 week deal.. I will have to make it a daily thing with more than 120 aircraft departing once a day early around 9am and recovery around 1pm..

Is this something you folks would be interested in?

I would like to see the outcome of the project..... These Red flag COMAO missions, will need to use both runways simultaneously or even better, two planes in the same runway.... not sure if it is possible.

thanks

Is this something you just want to have on your machine or are you looking to release something? If you want to release it, you have a lot of work to do. First, you would need the permission from every contributor on that package (there's a lot). Secondly, you would have to strip out any reference to MAIW from any of the files. Mike JG created the scenery and you can speak with him about that part. He was also the PM for it. Good luck!

I would definitely be interested in the flight plans.
I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I think it is correct in saying that we can use aircraft from MAIW packages, as long as they are for the individuals use only & not redistributed or put in another package for use by others, so if you indicate what aircraft should be used for a certain flight plan, we can the aircraft ourselves?

Well, for my personal use, I can use just about anything for any reason.. But to release it is another story. The airport scenery would be done entirely by me, it's just the numerous aircraft paints that I don't feel like doing (130 of them) for just one package. I can, as you can see from the screen shot, I can park nearly half of the aircraft to the SE side of the field and the other half on the main ramp so that both runways would be used for the mass launch and recovery. As for all the videos I have seen for Red Flag, they do not launch in tandem, but rather as singles. The main aircraft files I would be after are Seymour Johnson AFB F-15's, Shaw AFB F-16's, Charleston AFB C-17's, Luke AFB F-16's, Elmendorf AFB F-22's and C-17's, Macdill AFB KC-135's, NC ANG Charlotte C-130's, Tinker AFB E-3B Sentry's, Dyess AFB B-1B Lancers, RAF Harriers, RAF Lakenheath USAF F-15's, Italian F-16's and other NATO aircraft ETC....

You'll need to contact the repainters about using the paints. I'm sure they are listed in the credits. Recreate the scenery? That seems like a lot of work for what's already a payware-quality scenery.

Is it possible to make the MAIW Nellis scenery work in FSX? If it does work, then it might save you from having to re-invent the wheel.
