I've seen that one before and from what i can remember the afcad is pretty much non-existant. I'm willing too be corrected if i'm wrong.

No, that is spot on. The afcad only contains the starting positions and nothing else.

You could also add the following: Horsham-St-Faith in the UK and in Germany; Geilenkirchen, Gutersloh and Wildenrath.

I also have the following information, which might prove useful to some of you - Lightning bases and their sqns/units (sorry, I don't have the dates to hand).

Binbrook 5, 11, AFDS, LTF, TFF
Coltishall 23, 74, 226OCU
Geilenkirchen 92
Gutersloh 19, 92
Horsham-St-Faith 23
Leconfield 19, 92
Leuchars 11, 23, 74, TFF
Middleton-St-George 226OCU
Wattisham 29, 56, 111, TFF
Wildenrath 92

Here is a list of the squadrons/units and what Lightnings they flew:-

Sqn. Mk.

5 F6
11 F6
19 F2, F2A
23 F1A, F3, F6
29 F3, F6
56 F1A, F3, F6
74 F1, F3, F6
92 F2, F2A
111 F1, F1A
AFDS F1, F2, F3
TFF F1
226OCU T4, T5, F1, F1A
LTF F3, T5, F6

Hope this helps someone.

Keith
Thank's for this info .
#74 really moved around it was in Tengah for awhile !
I think I've got most of the Serial #'s correlated with tail "alphabet A-Z" and Sqn's
I'll put together Leuchars (everyone's got that base ? ) tonight or tomorrow

56 was also based at Akrotiri for a while and the LTF was also at Coningsby for a short spell in '76, sharing the hangar with 29 Sqn and their 'tooms.

Basically, you can do an awful lot with these packages.

I wonder how long it takes before the first scenery enhancement appears to take advantage of these.

5 and 11 squadron also had F3's and T5's

British Aerospace also had more than a couple flying out of Warton. IIRC, these were the last ones to fly in the UK and I remember seeing some flyby at Valley on their retirement - talking early 90s.

Mike, I'd check out XS903 BA, there seems to be two types of squadron markings on the tail, one is over lapping the other one

Not according to the following sites.

5 Sqn
During 1959 it was reborn as part of the all-weather fighter force in Germany, flying Javelins, and moved to Binbrook in 1965 with the all-new Lightning F6. These remained the Squadrons mount until 1987, when these were replaced by the Tornado F3, and it moved to Coningsby.

11 Sqn

On the 1st April 1967 XI Squadron reformed at RAF Leuchars operating the Lightning F.6 as part of the Air Defence of the UK. In March 1972 the Squadron moved to RAF Binbrook where it continued it’s long association with the Lightning, ending up as the last Lightning Squadron in service.

It is quite usual for a single-seater equipped squadron to have at least one, maybe two twin-stickers; in fact according to Military Aircraft Markings 1988 (Ian Allan) 5 Sqn had two T5's (XS416 and XS458), not forgetting that this book was published in April 1988, so the information would have been correct for the previous year, when the Lightning was retired. The F3's were retired by that point, but going back to 1984, go to one page with F3s listed and you find both 5 Sqn (XP751/AQ) and 11 Sqn (XP964/BO) examples.
Of course there are examples where a twin-stick wasn't used because one was never invented i.e. the Buccaneer - but that's another thread!
