Mike,

I know that the A definitely had the glove vanes extend, but I seem to recall reading that A+ and D had them welded shut and this was retrofitted to the A. Can you tell me whether that was indeed the case or whether my mind had gone walkabout?

What? Me worry?

Unfortunately I don't think the NBAI F-14D's will ever reach mach 1.4, but you might want to consider a ground attack version.

Steve,

I doubt that that was done unless some more effective means of shifting the center of lift back forward toward the center of gravity in supersonic flight was developed and substituted for the glove veins.

Thanks, Mike.

It maybe that due to a lack of alcohol some blood got through to the brain and I started hallucinating. Its seems that I have some weird dreams sometimes  .

OK, sucess with the textures. Well I think so anyway. Judge for yourself. Still some work to do but we're nearly there.

Talking about Glove Vanes, the D model does indeed not have them - http://www.anft.net/f-14/f14-detail-glovevane.htm - if you want to know anything about the F-14 that website has everything you could ever want to know, here's a link to the homepage - http://www.anft.net/f-14/index.htm

Steve,

You were correct about the absence of glove vanes on the F-14D, so you were more effective at keeping the alcohol content up in your blood after all.

Dave Waffler, who worked on F-14's while in both the VF-2 Bounty Hunters and VF-1 Wolfpack just verified for me that the F-14D did not have glove vanes and had a slight bulge added in that area to attain a similar aerodynamic effect at supersonic speeds.

"Hi Mike,

You are right, the glove vanes were removed in the 'D' model, and were replaced with a slight bulge. This helped the area where the glove vane was, and performed the same actions of stability for the Tomcat when the plane was flying at Mach 1 or higher."

On the question of AFCAD's, I made up one for Miramar, back in the day, with the original parking spots for each of the squadrons, including Topgun, the reserve aggressor outfit (VFC-13), the Fleet Replacment squadron (VF-124), the reserve airwing (VF-301, VF-302, VAW-88) and the E-2 squadrons.

I have done Oceana as well, but it's for the F-18's. But, it wouldn't take all that long to fix that for the F-14s

Also, I have done up Atsugi, Japan, were the forward deployed F-14's were (VF-154, VF-21).

Dave,

A retro Miramar sounds like a fun project to me. With Nick's movie making skills we could probably do a remake of the TopGun movie. :D

Don't tempt me.

Actually Ive been doing most of my model testing for this from Miramar. And the USS Enterprise from Alphasim.

Also got a great looking repaint for Iran done last night I'll try and get a screenshot for you soon.

We need a repaint for the Mig-28's. Were those F-5's? The T-38 will work methinks :)
