Interesting question but with a history, the general that came up with the idea of the United States Air force was in 1954 - 55, tossed aside and sacked the idea came to be in 1956 when the then USAAC or the United States Army Air Corps. The First defense Airbase For the USAAC was located in Millville N.J. Home of the Famous P-47 Thunderbolt "JUG" as it was nicknamed. The airbase is till partial military and is used as a NATO air qualification field. Not unusual to see a MIG or even a P-51 Fly through. Many world records held by the flyers some fortunate some less that hailed from this base. A museum and airshows yearly.
