Are the safety harnesses on the jumpseats along the side of the fuselage still stamped 1958, or have they finally replaced those?
Mike, I've always felt that military spending is basically a jobs program, as valid as any other program, to help the economy. In fact, the military spending has always been one of the smaller parts of the total yearly spending, but has been hyped as a large part in order to reduce and reduce again the military spending to free up more and more for social programs (all beyond what the Constitution authorizes - while military spending is authorized by the Constitution). I've always felt that BRAC was nothing more than smoke and mirrors put up by the Pol's to make it possible to get away with misusing tax money on programs that aren't really legal. They say that the military is too large, and mostly not needed, but at the same time complain that the military has been stretched too thin. We need to run them all (both parties) out of office and start from scratch before it gets to be too late.
It requires a never ending line of procurement to keep up with the needs of the future, and a larger standing force than we think will be required, in order to assure the ability to sustain the effort for extended periods, should that happen. Not being able to hang in until the end, is far costlier in lives and monies than the alternative, but it is clear that Pol's don't give a damned and those that blindly follow them are either callus, naive, stupid or all three.
BTW, it would be good to realize that we should be able to deal with a substantial number of smaller countries, acting together, and all at once, equaling a very large force coming from many directions at once. If we aren't able to do that, then the end of us is already written on the wall.
