Unless FSDS can read one of those formats, then no there's no sharing across the two CAD programs. Gmax is a real CAD program, FSDS is sort of like the cheap knock off made only to work with itself.

I'm sorry to say that, as has been reported before on here, the helicopter lift off before take-off is not a mechanism of the .AIR file but is an animation hard wired into the construction of the model.

It is impossible to make this happen with an aircraft already on the market, unless you can get the source files as Steve says.

Sorry, you'll have to make do.

Hey Nick,

This is just a thought I had which got me thinking. If say you modelled a Helo which had skids instead of landing gear, could you make your lift animation happen from the parking spot then taxi to the active with the illusion of actually hovering?

Now that would be great say for a Shawbury Squirrel...lol

I was just thinking.

Mark I'm pretty sure that's possible, don't want to speak for Nick but from what little I do know, I think it can be done.

Yes it is possible and fairly easy to do with XML.
The main stumbling block is that the models have to be built in a very specific way.
Any retro application of the hover taxi would need access to the models source files so it can be modified to that specific way of building them.

Nick - Shoot me a PM, I've had an idea on how to stop the wheels rotating while they go down the runway airborne. (Doesn't affect skids)

Would be even better if the real-life students could master it
