I have the RAF C-4's finished (long fuselage) and I'm just about to start the C-5's (short fuselage) conversions and paints.
What Brize Norton scenery are people currently using in FS9, FSX and P3Dv4 please? I know there is a version in development for P3Dv4 and that should provide a good home for the new RAF Hercs for that version in due course.
I can obviously use my test airfield to ensure all is well, but it would be useful to test the aircraft and flight plans in a proper Brize. I might not be able to change anything in the sceneries, but at least I might be able to tell users what to do to set up the aircraft.
I use UK2000 VFR Airfields version 2 Volume 1. Despite it's age, the UK2000 Brize scenery is quite good in P3Dv4.5. The parking spots are not assigned to airlines but that can be done easily with AFX or ADEX.
I also use the UK2000 VFR Vol 1 V2 EGVN, and it's a reasonable effort. In fact, I use quite a few of UK2000s airfields. They've declared the series obsolete now, and I believe they're not planning to upgrade or replace it, but they do support it on their forums, and are quite happy for people to modify it for their own use. The VFR V2 airfields also work very well with Orbx products.
Thanks for that. As I understand it, UK2000 for FS9 is now free, but UK2000 Part 1, V2 (which includes Brize) for FSX/P3Dv4 costs £29.99. I think then rather than buy scenery I won't tend to use after testing, I'll just release the RAF Hercs as aircraft and flight plans only packages. As has been suggested, it should be a simple task for users to set them up if they have the scenery.
For FSX, there's hardly any scenery for Brize Norton. There is a Brize Norton scenery in a package on AVSIM. It's only an upgrade to the default scenery.
The RAF C5 models are done and I just have to paint them. Looking at the list of serials, ZH887 still had the "RAF 100 tail" as of June this year and ZH883 also had the "50 Year" tail in March. I'll assume both are still current, but I can provide regular tails as an option for when they are withdrawn.
The really doubtful one is ZH880 that carried the 47 Sqn anniversary tail in July 2016. I have seen no photograph since then with a reversion to a regular tail. Does anyone know if it still sports the special paint please?
John, ZH880 no longer serves with the RAF (wfu in 2017). The airframe is currently being prepared by Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group, at its Cambridge facility for delivery to Bahrain as serial 701.
BTW, most C5 model Herks are already wfu now, this is the complete list from Scramble:
ZH880 with Marshalls, sold to Bahrain as 701
ZH881 with Marshalls, sold to Bangladesh as 99-5479
ZH882 with Marshalls, pending disposal
ZH883 with Marshalls, pending disposal
Zh884 with Marshalls, pending disposal
ZH885 with Marshalls, pending disposal
ZH886 sold and delivered to Bahrain as 702
ZH887 RAF 24/47 Sqn, to be withdrawn from use July 2019
ZH888 RAF 24/47 Sqn
ZH889 RAF 24/47 Sqn
Note: One airframe will be delivered to the US Navy in 2020 to become the next Blue Angels Fat Albert, serial tbc.
