No problem.
One thing we, as non-FSX users, have discovered is that if you have even one FS9 timed traffic bgl in your system FSX timed traffic bgls either don't show up at all or are extremely erratic at showing up. So what ever you decide, you can't mix and match.
I think that this is probably covered in Martin's doc, but I thought I would mention it just in case.

well firebird, i decided to follow the FS9 to FSX instructions and just do it the correct way. i spent about 4 hours downloading and installing everything per the instruction and like some other users here i got nothing. i am going to go over the instruction one more time to see if i missed anything. i did skip installing the AFCAD files and the prop texture link did not work but everything else looks good. i will report back tomorrow.
thanks,
kyle

You say you skipped the AFCADs-not good. The aircraft will have nowhere to park and so won't show up at all except possibly in transit in the air. I personally don't have any functionality problems with the MAIW afcads and I've got FSX with Acceleration for crying out loud! I would install the afcads and see whether it makes a difference, if not, I'm not sure what the problem is. Hope this rather long winded answer helps (he says hoping fervently he hadn't got it all wrong himself

)

c152flyboy,
Yeah, you should install the afcads as well. The main reason for this is that if FSX is anything like FS9 then most default airfields do not have much in the way of parking, if any. If that is the case then the aircraft have no spots to appear in.
One other thing about afcads is that the size of parking spot needed for an aircraft to appear is different from FS9 to FSX. In FS9 it is taken from the size built in into the mdl file, the actual model, whereas in FSX it is taken from the wingspan in the aircraft.cfg file. Something to be aware of but Martin probably covers this in the doc.

i didnt install the AFCAD's for 2 reasons. 1 is that they are for FS9 and 2, I will change them myself using ADE. I have been doing my own changes to airports for some time and ADE makes it very easy, though time consuming if you really want them to look right.
i know this is asking a lot of someone but can you please tell me what MAIW files you have in which FSX folders so i can make sure i have everything in the right place.

fs9 afcad files work exactly the same in fsx as they do in fs9. if you don't have any afcads installed you stand very little chance of seeing any traffic.

am i correct in understanding that you want somebody to list the (possibly gigabytes) of files they have for you?

no celtic, that is not correct. i am looking for someone to say, for example " traffic BGL files are in folder X, flight plans are in folder Y, that kind of thing.
as for the AFCAD issue again, even if i do not use then, i should still see some traffic. when i loaded Osan the first time when i worked i saw lots of traffic, sure some of the plans were half in a building, but i am going to re-do those airports to my liking anyway.

But Martin's guide tells you exactly where to put the files, why do you want someone to reiterate what his guide very eloquently tells you already?

Basically the different files go into the same folders they did under FS9, with the exception of aircraft. They go into the FSX\SimObjects\Airplane folder. Although, I would strongly suggest that you edit your FSX.cfg file, and make a separate category under SimObjects called AI Aircraft and place your ai planes there. Keeps them out of the menu for selecting your flyables, and just makes easier troubleshooting.
My AFCADS go into Addon Scenery\scenery, with the exception of my larger third party sceneries which I have in a separate FSX Scenery folder with subfolders by USA state or country, and all activated using the scenery library pulldown. I also have a separate activiated Libraries folder for all the object libraries. Again this just makes it easier for me to troubleshoot and organize.

Celtic, i did follow the guide to the letter and i still have a problem. so that means either i made a mistake somewhere or, like the guise says, it may not work for everyone. thats why i am thanking Rick for trying to explain to me where things should go, just to double check my folders.
Rick i did add a MAIW file in the CFG, numbered it #6 just like it says in the guide. and i did make a seperate file form them keeping them out of the airplane file. though i am using FSX i do use the FEDEX and UPS WOAI files and i do see them just fine and they fly fine too. i thought that the MAIW files that needed the WOAI installer would be in the same place as those but they are not so again that is why i wanted to see where things may have gone wrong.

I would double check when you used the WOAI installer. There is a choice in the middle where you pick FS2004 or FSX, and it defaults to FS2004, so it is real easy to go wrong there. Also, when getting ready to install make sure the windows that show where it is putting your files are correct.

that could be my issue.. when i install regular WOAI files i pick FSX and not FS2004 but when i created the virtual FS9 folder, per the instructions, i placed the MAIW files in the virtueal FS9 folder and picked FS 2004 on the WOAI installer. could that have been the problem? i did transfer all the files to the FSX folders it told me to after but maybe the installer or installation by me messed something up.

yes, when you are using a package that uses the WOAI installer, you should not have to place files into a temp/false FS9. With all the newer MAIW packages with their own installer, then you have to follow the instructions as done by the instructions from the Owl's Nest.

well i finally got them working, maybe not all of the them but so far so good. my one mistake was not converting the FS9 flightplans for FSX. that seemed to do the trick.

I am betting you didn't convert one of the traffic files from FS9 to FSX version...at least, when I forget to do that, my traffic disappears.

You gotta love those hidden bgls. I encountered this with the Payware Tyndall AFB and it took out all of my FSX traffic from Texas all the way across Florida, but other areas were not affected.
I'm glad you figured it out.
