As promised earlier, here's the Kamenny Ruchey Bears & Backfires, I'll upload the Fedotovo Bears tomorrow. If you're using the scenery by scottr5213 (http://www.militaryaiworks.com/newforum ... =40#p99103) or this scenery from AvsimRus, you'll need to reduce the model radius to 25 meters. For some reason, setting it to 26 (the parking radii in both sceneries) won't work.

I haven't seen any specific Naval repaints for the Backfire, but there doesn't appear to be a difference from the Air Force markings (Red star & bort number), so you can use those for the time being.
I use this base, just do not seem to Bear's

Any idea?

You need to reduce the model radius to 25 meters or open the scenery AFCAD and increase the parking radius to 30 meters.

After installed the scenery, open AFCAD software, then click to File->Open Airport, in the AirportID label insert UHKG then click "search"; select "UHKG" from the airport list then click OK; now you are back in the main page and you should have an airport scheme; click List->Parking and you should have a list with all parking spot; select the first then click "Properties"; change the radius (m) value from 26 to 30 or equivalent for feet; then click "Next spot" and do the same for all others parkings; finally "Save" the work.
P.S. it's better if you firstly make a backup of the original AFCAD file "AF2_UHKG"
Hope this help you. Cheers, Maurizio

Hi Maurizio,

Yes, it is understandable!
I'll try tomorrow, because I'm on duty today

The AFCAD program available?
Where?

Thank you!

I would strongly discourage reducing aircraft radius size of the Bear, because it is a true radius for the physical model. I normally have to reduce radius size of aircraft with drogue chutes after I compile them, as it gives an inaccurate aircraft radius with the drogue chutes strapped on. For example, the MiG-23 I am currently working on has an actual parking radius of ten meters, but with the drogue chute it is 18 meters, so it won't fit into the 'standard' small combat aircraft parking spaces. Without throwing anybody under the bus, I have seen several designers who have published their aircraft with the drogue-chute parking radius intact. I learned about this the hard way, and have forgotten at least once on one loadout for one particular aircraft to totally catch this.

I know because of these peculiarities, simmers regularly tailor parking radii of aircraft to fit, but if you make the aircraft smaller than it really is, it will have huge issues with running into other aircraft when moving around. It's not always the parking spaces themselves which are the issue in a particular AFCAD, but the framework of taxiways as well.

Due to the dispersed nature of Engels, I upped my parking space radii to 31 meters, because the largest model of this group is the Tu-126 late-model with the refuel probe. Don't forget that probe, it adds a meter onto the radius on some aircraft. I think the Tu-95 family will be the biggest aircraft I ever design, so hopefully I won't need to make larger parking spaces than this, lol.

Reducing the radius is the last resort for me anyway, I only do that if I can't fix the scenery I'm using (ie. ADE scenery where the objects haven't been split into a separate file).

This should go to the AVSIMs tomorrow..... full production run, 33 serials to include the two Tupolev/Aeroflot aircraft, the four JAL hybrids, and three which served in the VVS until 1991.

This one's coming as well, tomorrow. The aircraft are not individually serialled, but there are some visible variations down the construction numbers, so I actually only did one texture, but three model variations. I am going to vary the texture weathering a little bit, so the three aircraft look a little bit different age-wise, as well as physically. The parking radius of these and the Tu-114 is 29 meters. The refuel boom extends the radius to 31 meters, but that has been corrected for the package.

I've been a little quiet since the release of the Tu-114/126 models. I am working on a couple of Easter surprises, a couple of (initially) exclusive models for upcoming MAIW packages, more on that later. But here is model release number six for the year, the MiG-23 Flogger, parts 1 and 2. In addition to the usual things I am putting into my models now, I also am including a very nice three-part dynamic afterburner effect that has 38 emitter entries (for whoever understands that, lol); a big thanks to Firebird for some materials and help to that end. I watched about five different MiG-23 takeoff videos, and this is the closest I can come to replicating the AB sequence. I actually had some fun doing something different, and picked up another little skill for the modeling toolbox.

These go to the AVSIMs tonight.

A few comments on the first two packages...

-The Luftwaffe never used MiG-23s operationally, only evaluated them, but I painted some MFs up in full Luftwaffe scheme, a small virtual addition. I will do this with all of the LSK variants through the project (ML, BN).

-The MiG-23S Flogger-A (little wings, little nose, huge exhaust) was not used in operational squadron service, but about 70 were built, and they were used most everywhere in Russia for evaluation and conversion training. The early MiG-23U (not UB) will have the same early no-slat wings, and will be in part 4 or part 5.

-The physical model has the most ambitious static pitch I have modeled thus far, and I couldn't completely work out the tail-dragger syndrome from the aircraft in the FDE. Chalk this one up to the FS AI engine which votes to treat any aircraft with an aggresive static pitch as a tail-dragger. The tail lift-up is very slight, and the aircraft rotates fully before the main wheels stop spinning.

-The camo is different colors for the Russian aircraft because it reflects both aging of paint, and local repainting of aircraft where the exact paint match might be impossible to obtain. This has been seen before on some USMC aircraft and in the FAA during the Falklands war.

That's about it for now.

Thanks. Mike. Another outstanding work of art, we all do appreciate your efforts. I for one have no clue how to even begin. So I will continue to rely on the efforts of the other fine MAIW contributors and you to keep my military flying in FS9 the exciting experience it has become.
