A bit late to pick up, but anyway... I was pretty sure to have covered all stray fs9 traffic files. Can you remember which one where left over? Those are mentioned in the manual:
  • b. Go to the folder “<Virtual FS9>\Addon Scenery\MAIW RAF Coningsby\scenery” and move the files Traffic_EGXC_FlyBy.bgl and Traffic_EGXC_Jaguar_6Sqn.bgl to the folder “<Virtual FS9>\scenery\world\scenery”.
  • c. Go to the folder “<Virtual FS9>\Addon Scenery\MAIW (Works) Field\scenery” and move the file Traffic_MAIW_Airshow.bgl to the folder “<Virtual FS9>\scenery\world\scenery”.
  • d. Go to the folder “<Virtual FS9>\Addon Scenery\MAIW Miramar NAS\scenery” and move the files Traffic_TOPGUN_FLYBY.bgl and Traffic_TOPGUN_Mav's_Bike.bgl to the folder “<Virtual FS9>\scenery\world\scenery”.
  • e. Go to the folder “<Virtual FS9>\Addon Scenery\MAIW Kauhava AB\scenery” and move the files Traffic*.bgl to the folder “<Virtual FS9>\scenery\world\scenery”.

Hi
I am trying to install some of the packages into FSX using the excellent tutorial, however I seem to be stumbling at the first hurdle because I can't work out how to carry out the instruction to create a new file and rename it FS9.exe. I know how to create folders but the right click does not allow for a create new file. Please can any one help?

Thx Mike

Mike,

If you know how to open a Dos box (command window), then do so in the folder where you want to build your virtual FS environment. There you enter the following command:

copy con fs9.exe

You will see a blinking cursor. Then you press the F6 key and the Enter key. Done you are, a file fs9.exe is create in the folder. Tell me if this solved your problem.

Hi Martin

I may have spoken too soon , fs9.exe has been created in the FS9 folder but ADE environment checker does not locate it. ?

Cheers Mike

And does ADEC indicates that the path is pointing to the right folder? If not, you have to click on the button 'Set FS9 path' and then navigate to the folder where you have created your fs9.exe.

Off with the family now, will chack your feedback later today...

Hi Martin

Yes I have pointed ADEC to the correct place but it does not show any indication that it can see it, and the red bars remain in the text boxes. For info I am running Win 7 home premium, in case that makes a difference.

Enjoy your day Mike

ADEC will indeed indicate in red that fs9.exe is corrupt (remember that we have created it with a dirty trick and it has zero bytes). As long as the path to this zero-byte-fs9.exe is shown by ADEC, you are ready to ho on.

Hi Martin

OK I will try to continue after dinner and I will let you know how I get on, I was concerned because the actual path to FS9 is not indicated in those red text boxes, after clicking to find the path.

cheers Mike

This is how it is supposed to look (with F:\FS9 being the folder where you have created the FS9.exe):

Image

If it does not point to the fs9.exe, click on the 'Set FS9 Path' button, navigate to the folder where you have created the fs9 executable and select it. This will update the registry path.

Hi Martin
All seems to be working OK now, when I clicked the path to FS9.exe, there was no indication at all to show that it had registered, however, it works, which is all that matters, many thanks for your help.

Mike,

If your see the path to your fs9.exe where it says 'Install Path' then everything is okay.

The main purpose of the tool is to analyze the flightsim environment for errors. The red error text which you see (you see that, right?) is because your registry is now pointing to the fake installation. Therefore it is important to reverse the path to the original fs9.exe in case you do that work on a computer where you have a real Flight Simulator 2004 installation.

Hi Jon,

The Environment Checker can't be used to create the fake fs9.exe. You have to do this by yourself, for example by doing it like this:
gsnde wrote:Mike,

After you have created it, use ADEC to point to that fake executable to set the registry key.

Thanks jon

OK,

Everybody having a problem to create a fake fs9.exe can download it here.

1. Download file to a folder on your harddisk
2. Start ADEC and select the option 'Set FS9 path'
3. Navigate to the place where you have stored the freshly downloaded FS9.EXE (see 1)

You are done.

Jon, does this help?

Ok I've made some progress as it is now reading the fs9, however it says Can not read fs9.exe - this file is corrupted any ideas.
Thanks Jon

Jon,

Right, since this fs9.exe is a text file containing "well, kind of only...." there is indeed no version number to read. From that perspective ADEC is right - the file is corrupt :smt002

Luckily we don't want to run any flight simulator with it. We use it to set the fs9 path in the registry to allow to install the MAIW packages into you virtual fs9 folder without navigating to it each and any time.

So you are where you want to go. If you run an MAIW package, it will now see your FS9 installation where your fake fs9.exe is located.
