Guys,

Below are links to videos of the EE Electric Lightning. The vertical climb segments are very impressive. Enjoy! :D

I'd seen those before, but it's always nice to see them again. Thanks.

Who mentioned Leconfield?

Wonder if Mr Pearson remembers this from a good few years ago.

Certainly do Jim. I kind of wonder (as the dotage arrives) just what effect we had on the RAF. After all we went to Lindholme.............it closed, we went to Leconfield............it closed

Happy, happy days Jim.

Oh, I spent 3yrs at Oakington in the mid 80's once the Army had taken it over (657 Sqn)
Also did a weeks detachment at Brawdy with a lone Gazelle doing liason shit.
Got a ride in a Hawk while I was there.
Small world!

Here is a teaser of some advanced panting for the initial release packages. All models are reflective, so it is twice as slow painting, but well worth it. These are F.1, F.52, and F.53 serials for the RAF, RSAF, and KAF. More previews to follow.

Just so nobody has an aneurysm or heart attack wondering what I am up to, those are single-LOD beta models in the screenshots, I have something like eight loadout models planned for the F.53, with bombs and Matra/SNEB rockets. F.6 and F.53 will have the overwing tanks or overwing rockets where appropriate. So, steady, boys........ wait until you see what I have planned post-Lightning and post-Phantom, this year...... here's one little teaser for Miljan and a couple of other friends from eastern Europe......

Stewart Pearson wrote:True Story:

Picture the scene. Lightning sitting at the runway hold short. Phantom on finals for a touch and go. Phantom pilot does his overshoot right over the top of the Lightning - lights his burners and pulls vertical. Lightning pilot gets take off clearance, taxis into position and takes off (ala Lightning) pulls vertical and overtakes Phantom!!

Happened at Binbrook many years ago in the good old days.
I was there that day and it was truely the most amazing thing to see...

During the days of the Tornado F.2 radar trials the Lightnings flew with overwing tanks to extend the range..
Problem: The Tornado radar could not see the Lightning nose on and several times the Lightning had gone past before the Tornado jocks knew it was there [stealthy or what]
solution: they retro fitted the pointy bit of the fuel tanks with "tin foil" to give the radar a fighting chance...

Another interesting fact was they flew several sorties using a Lightning F.3 with the belly tank removed, from wheels up to touchdown the trip was around 13 minutes!
