I think it's clear that this thread wasn't really about some random shots in FS9, so I'm going to move this to the aircraft design forum now. ;)

Before anyone asks, yes we will probably attempt the Japanese Mitsubishi F-2 when we have the time. They are similar enough as to HOPEFULLY only require some parts to be stretched out a bit. It's never that easy but we'll see. I managed to find some decent 3 views of the F-2 finally so that will help.

I so hope that reference is lost on everyone... I'm a bad bad poster for doing that.

Different kind of preview image:

The 'hotter' the color, the more of a performance drag that part is on the CPU. White being the hottest or most complex parts to render for the computer while blue are the easiest to render with the least amount of texture calls.

Interesting.
So this kind of view is a functionality within FSDS or ist it a different tool?

How is the complexity defined/calculated?
Is it number of vertices or poylgons within a specific volume?
It looks as if the curvature of the surface also has a big influence.

It's a function within ModelConverterX. I don't know for sure but I am guessing it is looking at the number of polygons and number of times a texture is called to texture those polygons. The parts with the most curvature, IOW the highest number of polygons, seem to be the hottest spots along with parts that call textures from multiple parts of the texture sheet to color one part.

That's interesting Mike. Which version of MCX gives that facility and which button is pressed to show it please?

There seems to be more polygons in the white area of the fuselage than in the wings which are "hot". The RBF ribbons are stand alone parts because of the animation and only a few polygons, yet they are included in the "hot" class.
