Thank you, Biggles. I'll download it and try it for myself. Even a performance increase of a few percent would be worthwhile.

Good find Biggles!
I downloaded and tried it out this morning. Noticed a big difference with the smoothness of flight inputs.
My system:
Dell XPS 710
Intel Core2 Quad CPU @ 2.66GHz
4 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce GT 430 w/1GB video mem.
Windows XP
I have the frame rate set at 30FPS and it never went below 29.9. I have a heavy AI load of civilian and mil FP's, and use Megascenery and some of bluesky scenery photoreal scenery. Tried about an hour each in the KJFK, KORD, and KLAX areas with no problems at all. The only glitch was when in 2d cockpit and changing views it would freeze for less than 1 second.
Now for the acid test... off to Nellis!

I use this tool since it was uploaded, but I am not sure how it works ...
I suppose it switches only fs9 from one cpu to the other (of my 2 core pc).
So I get a load of about 50 percent on each cpu instead of 100 percent on cpu 0.
I cannot see a better frame rate, but I suppose it is better for thermal reasons???

Yes, I didn't see a better frame rate but what I did notice was that the frame rate never varied downward, even when switching to high density scenery or AI traffic. But what I though was most significant was the smoothness of flight inputs with my stick and rudder; before even with good frame rates it always seemed like the joystick movements were a bit "sticky" especially when trying to trim out, now it "feels" more like it does in a real aircraft. Could just be me

but without any other tweaking or hardware changes it seemed better.

thanks for your detailed explanations,
my posts always get a little short because of limited English knowledge ..

For anyone following this thread who have multi-core computers (who doesn't these days!), I highly recommend this little addon. I tested it at Nellis with all relevant MAIW packs running and a large number of civil packs out of KLAS and no slows, no hiccups, no jerking (well a little, but that's probably an FS9 thing

), just consistent frames and smooth viewing and flying. I ran this at Nellis with low, medium and high scenery settings and displays options both sitting on the tarmac and flying TNG's, never better in my estimation. As you can see from my earlier post, I have a good computer but not top of the line these days. I think giving FS9 the additional CPUs has brought it up to par with FSX; I have FSX and after using this addon I don't really see too much of a difference any more!
Many thanks to the developer(s), great freeware!

I did not want to critisize anything of this tool, ( I would not use it every day).
My big question is: how does it work?
I have Vista 64 and can change the cpu affinity of fs9 by taskmanager from 0 to 1 and back.
I cannot change it manually as fast as fs9_affinity.exe, but the result is similar.
But now:
If I close fs9_affinity after fs9 is running, fs9 continues switching from CPU 0 to 1 ????
Is there anybody with turkish language knowhow who can contact the author:

That's great to hear. Now about getting one of those dual core machines......... Cause not all of us have them.

Mike, to be honest, I wasn't even sure they make single core anymore! I just made an assumption that like underwear, hardware gets changed as quickly (and you know what happens when you assume

)
But if and when anyone with a single core upgrades to dual or better, they should check this little add-on out (that's assuming they stay with FS9 as well

)

If I ever upgrade, I certainly will. Right now my trusty ole Gateway with a P4 is still plugging away 8+ years after I got it.

Simple question, do you have to run FS9 via this tool every time, for it to be operative?

Yes, you pick the executable that matches the number of cpu's (2, 4 or

and it will then ask if you want to start FS9 and off you go!
@Mike, a tip of the cap sir, keeping a rig going for 8 years is a testament to your maintenance skills (especially considering the increasing demands of software!)

thank you to all involved

One RAM upgrade, two video card upgrades and added two external HD's over that time span is all I've done to it.

Mike, I was there with you. My rig just gave up after almost 7 and half years of dutiful service, now I am on a 6 year old laptop until I can acquire all of the parts for my new build. Only upgrades I ever made the the old gal was a new vid card and HDD after they died.

Guys, I am envious! My current rig I admit is almost five but already I've replaced power supply (twice), video, and now one of the dvd drives is getting ready to crap out

Before that I can't remember any computer lasting more than three years and I've had one or another since '79 (Trash-80!) Could it be me

My older computer was ten years old before I upgraded to a gaming type desktop (to run fs2004 of course). I've still got and it runs just fine. Only the hard drive and power supply went mammaries vertical and to be replaced.

Well hopefully we're seeing more and more reliable hardware these days.
I would love to upgrade but right now, it's not a financial priority as long as this one keeps on chugging.
Besides when I am ready to upgrade, I'm going to make Danny build my new rig for me!

I'll just give you my quad 2.5 next time you come down.
