How the heck do you install sounds to AI aircraft?

Within the soundai folder for each aircraft, or is that not what you are asking?

They use the same format as a UI aircraft, but with a "soundai.cfg" and the .wav files living in the "soundai" folder in the aircraft folder.
Or you can set up the AI sound folders somewhere else and alias to them (that's what I did)
I dunno if anyone's making AI soundsets though. When I was actively using FSX, I just pinched UI soundsets and modified them for AI use.

Thanks guys. Which files to include? What about the soundai.cfg file? Any edits needed?

As Drew says, the format is very similar to the UI aircraft sound folders. I did a similar thing to him and just copied a folder from one of the default AI aircraft and aliased as required. You can alias the sounds to any aircraft, but the soundai cfg only uses certain of the sounds (not start and shutdown IIRC). However, if you alias to a UI aircraft which has a high quality sound set and you have a lot of that particular AI aircraft you may well suffer a performance hit, I did this with a C-130 set and that made my system suffer.
There is a commercial AI sound set package, have a look at the FSPilot Shop for (I think) a developer surname of Constable. He's produced a couple of packages which work very well and include rotary, piston, civil and military soundai packages.
Edited to add: I seem to remember he also did an experimental startup/shutdown setup based on effect file linking, but I only had very limited success with it.

Yeah the soundai.cfg is a little bit different, I think it only has the external sound sections, but I can't remember exactly.
I think I just copied a default soundai.cfg, tweaked it a bit, then used it as a base for each new AI soundset. Then I'd just grab FS9 or FSX UI soundsets, find which wavs I wanted, down sample them to help improve performance, and copy them into the ai sound folder.
I seem to recall I had the soundai.cfg set up to only use 3-4 different wavs for external sound ranges, and a reverser sound. I don't recall if I ever fiddled with getting startup/shutdown sounds to work.
A porpoise-made AI soundset package sounds a lot easier!

Hi All,
I have the original traffic sounds by Alan Constable which contains 25 sounds, 8 civil jet engine sounds, 7 military jet engine sounds, 8 propellor engine sounds (turbine and piston) and 2 helicopter engine/rotor sounds.
The latest version contains 36 different sounds and costs Euro 13.34.
After looking at a sound folder I used it as a basis to make some others of my own by downloading sound files from avsim etc and using just the external sound files. I now have the some additional realistic sounds not included in the original product. The sound of the wokka wokka form chinooks taking off is great.
Regards,
Steve

Hi all,
after a long search, today I found an AI-Sound Set on Avsim. I my eyes it is fantastic and very close to real life. It was made by Marcel Verheydt for A320, B737, B747 and B777. Civil Jets, but also to use for Tankers, Transporters, Government Aircraft etc. I tested it today on a civil airport and it was amazing. Starts, Taxiing and Landings with Reversal sound! Very easy installation. For those who are looking for real sound I recommend to install. Here is the Link:

If you download the new JYAI F-15 repaints from Zsolt on Martin's "Owls Nest", he put some sound files in as well. I have the mentioned sounds and a few other freeware made for AI versions. I guess I need to change something, when flying next to them the AI sound is very loud.
