Does this a/c really have this much 'smoke' coming from the engines - it looks more like they are on fire!

Have a look at that pics. It will give you some idea of the smoke, worse when at high power just like J79 powered aircraft.
. The newer RR engines on the C-130J's don't have nearly the smoke trail of the P-3 or C-130E/H.
