Hey all,

I've been doing some searching but havent really found anything good. I am looking for an outline of a "typical" Naval Aviator's career path from training to retirement. Any US Navy guys out there that can help?

I don't know about the Navy, but for the Air Force there isn't a typical career path. There are check boxes you are highly encouraged to fill (instructor, flight commander, staff job, PME, etc…). However for the most part you look for assignments that highlight your talents. A lot of it is blind luck and being in the right job at the right time.

I have had commanders over the past 20 years who had nothing but flying assignments. I have also had commander who have only had one or two flying assignment and spent the rest of the time doing staff jobs. Hope this helps.
