He grew up not far from where I grew up, a true hero of the world.

Just saw the news, what a damn shame. The last great pioneer. Remember getting up in the wee small hours to watch him live.

Thanks for the great memories, RIP

What I still can't believe is that we went to the moon, all of the missions, before I was ever even born. Can't believe we haven't been back.

Someone posted this on twitter (I nicked it for my facebook page)

"Science flew us to the moon. Religion flew us into buildings"

Stew,

Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon is one of those events during our lifetime that we will always remember where we were when it occurred and/or we watched it. I left a lively pool party to watch it to the displeasure of my first wife and never had any regrets. She's long gone and I still have the memory of watching that great historical event.

Yea but you guys actually got to experience it as it happened, I've only ever seen the news reels and movies. That was an exciting time to be alive, when budgets were endless, the only thing that mattered was besting the Russians at any cost.

There was a great DVD out called In the shadow of the moon, which had a lot of the moon walk astronauts talking about their experience. I just wish that Neil Armstrong was in it, as he would have been the icing on the cake for that DVD.
It is a sad day indeed, but not only do I salute Neil as a hero in the true sense of the word, but also all of the Mercury, Gemini & Apollo & Shuttle astronauts.
