MAIW Aircraft disappeared

I posted the following on the Tech Forum, Has anyone else any ideas please?.....................

I had successfully downloaded and installed all the MAIW packages for FSX (using the conversion guide). All ran OK until I had a problem with FSX. I had to uninstall FSX, move it to it's own partition. and re install. I saved all the MAIW files and replaced them in the new installation (changed the fsx.cfg simobjects to include MAIW). MAIW still appears in FSX Scenery and my Super Traffic Board recognises the MAIW installation. BUT - There are no AI aircraft in any of their airports now.
Have I missed a vital bit out when I re installed FSX?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

From Mike JG:
I do not run FSX, but my understanding is that in FSX, even if you have one single FS9 traffic filed installed, it will wipe out ALL of your other traffic files and you won't see any traffic in FSX at all.
You might make sure that ALL of your MAIW traffic files have been converted to FSX standards.

From me:
Mike, Thanks, it's a thought; I just wonder how one sets about doing that?
Robin

From Mike JG:
That's a good question, not being an FSX user, I'm not sure.
Someone on here will know.

From me:
Hope so, otherwise it looks like starting from square one, and that took a LONG time!
Rgds,
Robin

Well I never bother using that guide it may be the same I dont know never read it....my choice, I just do the below conversion and never had many problems:

1) Convert AFD to ADEX standard using ADE. Then resize all the parking spots to FSX nonsense half wing span code.
2) Convert FP to FSX dribble.
3) Convert aircraft textures to DXT5 and invert any Alphas
4) Rename the aircraft folder path to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes
5) Copy paste the whole package into FSX directory.

What is Super Traffic Board by the way?

Mark, Thanks for the swift reply:
a. I'm afraid I don't really understand you points 2) & 3), fairly new to this but picking things up all the time.
b. Is C:\ where you keep your FSX? Or just where you keep the temp MAIW package?
c. Are you doing just one package at a time?

2. Super Traffic Board......http://www.supertrafficboard.com/ (I got it from here: http://secure.simmarket.com/fws-super-t ... r-fsx.phtm)

Robin, please make only 1 thread per topic. I have deleted or closed the others.

Do you have other non-MAIW traffic installed? If so, did you convert those traffic bgl's to FSX format with a tool like AIFP2?

To answer your question to mike, you can check if there are FS9 bgl's lingering in your FSX setup by using the "Find FS9 Traffic Files" function in AIFP2.

Greg, Sorry about that, trying to cover all my options....

And yes, I've quite a few mostly WoAI (using their installer) and some independents which didn't need to be converted. (I've not used AIFP2, but I'll try it out now)
Thanks for the info.

Robin

Robin, same set up on my system, MAIW for mil stuff and WOAI for civie stuff, you will have to convert the FS9 traffic.bgl's to FSX standard, or your other AI will not appear. AIFP2 is the best for this purpose I have found, works great and I've never had an issue with it, FS skies are full of traffic. The program is one click to convert your FS9 files to FSX, then tell it where you want the file, most of the time always in the Scenery/World/scenery path... done.

If you converted your MAIW bgl's to FSX format, but not your WoAI bgl's, then there's your problem.

If FSX finds traffic bgl's which are in FS9 format, it will only show those and disregard all traffic bgl's in FSX format, even the default GA traffic.

Dustoff, Greg,
Thanks, however, my problem is not the WoAI stuff or the default, that's all running fine. (Civil traffic everywhere, but no military). It's just the MAIW stuff which has gone. I've just run FAIP2 and everything including the MAIW was in FSX standard. So... I'm now at a loss?

Greg,
I admit defeat!
I found a load of WoAI bgl's lurking within the 'converted to FSX' ones. This is what caused the prob. as you rightly suggested!
I now have MAIW aircraft all over the shop.

Thanks everyone for your help in sorting me out.

Regards,
Robin

Robin,
I do a manual install of my WOAI packs the same as I do with MAIW, just creating a folder and manually move them over, this will cause issues with the WOAI installer, but I don't really need it since I use AIFP2 instead.

Chris,
Yes I see what you mean. Since I've discovered AIFP I think life will become a lot easier!
