I have downloaded John's KMIB Minot from Avsim and am getting a crash when its selected. I have followed the instructions to the letter.

Anyone else getting this?

Chris

Having a quick read of the Doc's, and knowing John's scenery as i do, can I confirm that you both did in fact copy over/install the files in the Scenery/World/texture folder.

The reason I ask is because the type of error you both are getting see are normally related to these textures. Can you both confirm at what point it crashes when you try to load the scenery from initial start up, i.e. what percentage and what files is it loading?

The other thing that you could try until I get a chance to check, is to move the landclass file to the landclass file that you have setup for MAIW packages. LC files should be loaded fairly early before scenery and I would like to rule out this as a cause.

If still no joy then placing the Minot_VTPL.BGL file somewhere safe and seeing if that helps.

I have a number of John's sceneries, so I'm used to the extra textures going in the scenery\world\textures folder. I've tried disabling "Minot Landclass.bgl" (there's some rule of thumb saying that landclass files shouldn't reside in scenery folders with associated texture folders), to no avail. I'll try moving it to the MAIW Landclass folder, and if that doesn't work, I'll disable the VTPL.

Steve,

I took out the Landclass but it still crashed.

I took out the file Minot_VTPL.BGL and it worked perfectly. What am I missing?

Thank you,

Chris

OK that is progress. The VTPL uses some preset textures. They are normally default textures, to avoid things like this, but it would seem that John might be using a texture that he thinks is a default but in fact is not.

At least we are closing in on the cause. If John can say what texture(s) he used for it then we might be able to get around it.

Steve, if the issue is the VTPL file then you might just want to leave it out. The only thing that file does is restore the roadway on the west side of the field that was overlaid by the photo-background. The textures for that are "Dark_Road.bmp" and "Dark_Road_L.bmp" both of which were in the download with the photo-ground tiles.

Unfortunately I lost the source file for the ground cover there should be no other non-default textures, in fact no other lines besides that roadway. I'll keep checking when I can return to my computer.

I have had a similar problem. The scenery loads just fine but then after a couple of mins, whilst I was
wandering around the base looking at the scenery it crashed. I had already removed all the static B-52's
as I'm using the FS_KBT A/C as an AI. I then followed the advice and removed the Minot_VTPL.BGL file
and all seems to be ok.

John

Not wishing to make a fuss, as I can live without the road, but I have those two textures in World-Scenery-Texture.

Without the source it is going to be difficult to see what it is trying to call. If I can work it out then I will let you know.

Understood Chris, just trying to make it workable for the moment and localize the problem. Upon further inspection it seems I also made a dirt road on the North side of the base. The textures for this were NOT included in the upload and are posted here.

Please advise if this works so I can upload a fix

EDIT: Sorry guys I don't know why they did that, here is a zipped version.

Hi John,

I can't download those bmp's, any chance you can attach them as a zip please?

I have no image symbol, and there is no save as option. I use firefox, latest version.

Also tried that pesky IE10 and that also doesn't give me any options to download.

I took the long route: Right-click the image, select properties, copy the URL (http://www.militaryaiworks.com/newforum ... p?id=12527 & http://www.militaryaiworks.com/newforum ... p?id=12528), paste it into address bar, and finally got the download prompt.

And they did the trick for me, thanks for the quick resolution John 8)
