New AFCAD problem: No landings

Small problem with the project I'm working on, nothing lands. Test traffic taxis off it's parking spots, to the hold short, takes the runway, takes off, orbits the pattern... then after turning final stops descending to the runway and overflies it before pulling up accelerating and climbing until it flies out of sight and never comes back. They talk to the tower the whole time right up until final then never say anything again. They don't call going missed, have the tower hand them off to another channel or anything. Any following aircraft that are also in the pattern get waved off by the tower like there's something on final or the runway.
I have UH-60s and CH-47s both doing the same thing
In the AFCAD file the runway is definitely connected to the taxiways and the hold shorts are properly in place.
I tried deleting and rebuilding the runway. but the problem is still occurring.
I know there is something obvious I must be missing.

Have you checked the runway properties to ensure that it is open for landings?

I seem to recall people getting this at other times. I can't remember exactly but I think it has something to do the AI engine thinking that the aircraft can't land on the runway due to width or length.
If you want me to test what you have pm me and I will see if I can work out the problem. I have today and tomorrow to go at it.

IIRC there is a length at which the FS9 AI engine won't let AI aircraft over a certain empty_weight (I think?) land.

Yup. I even switched the settings around a few times to force it to take off and attempt to land from certain directions to see if it just didn't like one end of the runway. No dice. Same result.

The runway is currently 800'x75'. I think I used smaller on the FARPs in the Ft. Hood release, but don't remember off hand. It'll try making it longer and wider tonight to see if that works.

Traffic View Board has been know to cause that behavior. If so, try disconnecting from the AI you are following, use your joystick/yoke to circle tvb and wait to see if the AI turns base. If it does you can re-select the AI and follow it through to landing! Root cause I don't know! Ron

Whose AI UH-60s and CH-47s are you using and what are the FDE's that they are using?

Not using it. I'm just watching stuff buzz around from the center of the field.

JFAI UH-60 and the NBAI CH-47.

Still troubleshooting this one. Attempted fixes last night: Changed the runway to 1350x130. No change. Changed the tower to CTAF. Interestingly, with this change the traffic stopped flying away to never never land after missing the runway and started re-entering the pattern for another go. Still no landings. Completely removed the scenery and replaced it with a 1350x130 runway with a basic taxiway and parking lot structure. No change.
I'm wondering if maybe the 1000 foot default pattern altitude is too high for the helos. Don't remember this being a problem before, but it's worth a try tonight after work.

I just checked my personal helo strip for the MAIW airfield and found that I had set the pattern altitude to 500'. So whilst i am not saying that 1000' is the problem but you can definitely try it at 500' to see if it helps.
Just checking our Valley chopper strip I find that it's 492'x'1 and that takes Sea Kings but again the pattern altitude is 500'.

Problem solved. It was in fact the default pattern altitude. Switching it to 500' fixed everything.

Good to know in the future, 500' is slightly more accurate anyway for AI helos.
