Turkmenistan

Post by jgowing »

I installed the Turkmenistan scenery available from Avsimrus, amongst other reasons to provide a home for a few more Frogfoots and Foxbats. Mary (UTAM) is fine, but her neighbour Mary North (UT52) is not; the runway is around 500 feet above the rest of the airfield. Reference to Google Earth indicates that the runway elevation (ca. 700 ft) is correct. Has anyone else been here?

Mary north has the code TM0E in flight-simulator.

The af2 file for UT52 puts the elevation at around 500 feet.

I have basic FS genesis mesh installed and the TM0E is slightly above the surrounding terrain.

With UT52 installed the airport is in a rectangular trench.

The AF2_UT52.bgl file is causing this.

Solution:

Open stock airport in ADE.

Do an extended compile.

Open the .XML file with notepad.

The first part of the page gives the airport data, then it has a delete section. After the delete section it builds the airport up again.
To remove an airport, remove the sections after the delete airport, starting with the part "<Tower" until the last line above "</Airport>

Save it and then compile it with BGL comp.

To change the altitude of the new airport:

Copy the Af2.bgl file to a folder in the ADE folder.

Start ADE.

Select "open airport from bgl".

Navigate to your required file. Open it.

On the tools tab select change airport altitude. Change the altitude to your desired altitude. Click change.

Compile the modified airport. Change the file name or take note of the new file name.

Remove the offending AF2.bgl file from your scenery and start flightsim.

Here are files that might solve this particular issue.

Additional info for above.

Remove the xxx_ADE.bgl created for the airport you wish to remove during the extended compile operation. If not it will haunt you until you do.

Thanks very much, John; I didn't know about the default file with a completely different code. Everything is good now. It turned out that Ashgabat Bezmein had exactly the same problem.

Thanks again. Someone in this community nearly always has the answer.. :D

All the best,

Jon
