Tornado Cockpit Transparency?

Hi All,

I hope someone can help or at least clarify whether the cockpit glass of the Tornados should be transparent or not?

I have almost all packages installed into FSX and all aircraft have a transparent looking cockpit except the Tornado's which just appear 'greyed out'?

Is this the same for everyone else or is it just me? Can it be fixed or is it just the way the tornado models are? Or is it possibly an FSX thing?

I have a screenshot but im having difficulty attaching it.

Cheers,
Chris

Hi there,

I suspect that this could be an FSX thing as the AI Tornado was developed before FSX was but a glint in Bill Gates' eye.

Anyone else having these problems with FSX?

Cheers

If that's so it means, that Tornados does not have a texture on the glass ... only a model update could cure this.

I know one of the Tornado packages was installed via WOAI (Italian Tornado's package) but i have another which was manually installed (Not sure which one).

Is a model update or any update which would correct the problem very likely?

Im sure this would be needed as FSX becomes more popular (Assuming this is ofcourse a FSX specific bug after all) as with this problem they do not look anywhere near as realistic as the other aircraft in MAIW packages.

Yes, the issue would have to be taken up with Fernando.

Fernando Martinez is THE Tornado model author. He is the only person able to modify the stuff to resolve the cockpit windows issue.
Or we should wait that somebody else will do another version, what I doubt, because of existing Fernando's high quality work...

Or, you could purchase AlphaSim's Cold Lake or RAF Leuchars, which has licensed Fernandoe's Tornado's that are fully FSX compatible :P

(also, his F-4 Phantom in Bien Hoa is FSX ready as well)

I replaced the Alpha-Channel with dark grey in the canopy area and it works!
It's a tip from P. Taylor, ACES ?

I assume the same technique should work for HT's F-16, Nick's Typhoons and all the others?

I don't know it. I would say: Test it!

It'll work if their cockpit glass is textured. If it's not then only an update will work afaik.
Can't remember off the top of my head if they're textured or not.

Where do I install these files to?

I've installed it with the program dxtbmp. You can download from http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/pr ... dxtbmp.htm

You have to open the texture and toimport the alpha-channel-file as alpha-channel. Then save the file.

The Tornado file is for the IDS version only, NOT the ADV.

Thanks Horst!

As an aside, I was working on files for HT's F-16s, but I think the problem may have been resolved by SP2, can someone else verify this? I'm going to have a look at other models and see if there are any other issues with the transparencies.

You're right. The HTAI F-16 are all right. The Tornadoes have total clear canopies. It looks better with Alpha-Channel.
