I saw a couple of clips Youtube where it said the scenery was Orbx 5.1 for FS9, I thought it looked very good so I did a search.
I got a few torrents for it but the rest of the links were a bit vague, so is it genuine, legal etc or what?

Col sounds like someone has converted the payware Orbx Global Ground textures From FSX to FS9, if this is the case then i would go no further with it as that would be illegal! 5.1 is just the version number they are on!

Yeah that looks like piracy to me. I don't think Orbx support FS9.

If somebody has converted the Orbx scenery to work on FS9 - that is not a problem.
If they are offering instructions on how to do it - that is not a problem.
Both ways involve somebody purchasing the software for themselves.

If they are supplying either free or for money then that would be a problem.

Well, the presence of the torrents would seem to imply distribution. I can't say I'm too keen on finding out however...

If it's that easy to convert about thousand texture files, why it haven't been done by Orbx itself? In a way it shows a very low esteem concerning FS9 users.

It could be as simple as the fact that none of the developers have FS9 and therefore can't check that it works perfectly on FS9.

My favourite torrent site (you know the one!) doesn't have it and if they wont touch it I guess its very dodgy!! Often they get warned by the copyright holders if they know, and as it was on You Tube I guess they know!!

I dont think Bear Island (Norway)? is covered by Norway FTX going by the Google Earth KMZ..

One thing is for sure: there is no official sanctioned Orbx product that is coming any other way than through the shops and their update server. More to it... They use a mechanism to determine if a product might be illegal and then they screw up the flightsim system beyond repair. There were several threads about this "defense mechanism" in the last half year. I think this goes way too far, but they think they have all the right to do so.

OK that would make sense. My guess is that the Orbx textures replace the default FS9 textures whereas the Orbx system itself must replace textures on a regional basis.
