Wedgetail

I'm using the wedgetail from the ADF package but its huge in FS9 at 5,000 feet and several miles away it dwarfed everything!

Is there a better one available or a corrected mdl for it?

John

There is no decent AI model for the Wedgetail. There is also no improved version of that model.

There is a flyable version.

I used a 737-700 with no winglets. At least the basic airframe is nearly correct.

Ah John, there is a correct sized model inside the model folder. It has a different name. I found it out by accident.

Rename the 'AI_Wedgetail.mdl' to 'AI_Wedgetail_backup.mdl' and then rename 'AI_Wedgetail.MDL.orig' to 'AI_Wedgetail.mdl'.

If I have it correct then you should be ok.

I've tried the wedgetail with both .mdl files and it does not appear. :?
It looks OK with the model viewer in AI-Aircraft Editor & FSRepaint.

Any ideas?

Jim

Discovered that the aircraft type was set to "0" ie normal - changed it to "2" ie Ai and it now appears.

Only problem now is that it sits approx 4ft above the ground.......

I got it working but I am kinda tied up with some stuff at the moment. If you haven't got it working by Monday I might have some time to provide a working solution.

Thanks for that, I'm just going around in smaller and smaller circles and eventually I'm going to vanish up my own.......

At the mo, when they're parked they sit about 4 feet off the ground, once they start taxying they drop to the correct height and taxi away normally..... :?

I've got mine appearing in sim, will check tomorrow to see if they are floating when parked.

Don't have the floating problem Jim has but mine a vastly over scale. Here they are at YAMB with a C-17.

Did change it but now it doesn't show up in sim.

Can you post the one you use please.

OK I did a quick check and found that this mdl was in proportion to the AIA 737-700 so i don't think the size is wrong.

Secondly, when checking my fde, as I hadn't touched it in a while, I found that it worked perfectly well but that the nosewheel didn't retract after take off, which is weird as I don't remember that happening before or maybe I just didn't check it that much.

On closer inspect the wheel doesn't rotate either so i suspect that the modeller forget to connect the noseleg properly as using various tools I was able to see that the mdl contains the full retraction animation.

So I can supply the correct size mdl and a working fde if somebody is happy to have the nosegear down all the time.

Or the second option is that if somebody was to supply individual paints for POSKY version I will knock up an fde quickly for it to work.

I'll like to try it Steve, the radius was way over size so I reduced it to 23m it was closer to 43m. As it's in service by a few countries plus more have ordered it, perhaps we could make a proper AI one? Same goes for the Poseidon based on a similar airframe.

I hoped that Erez would do the mil 737s but he has ruled that out and I did contact the AIA guys a couple of years ago, who said they wouldn't promise anything and that now looks dead. I can't see either one allowing any of our modellers access to the source.

My gut feeling is although its shape is fairly simple the size of it and therefore the complexity of things like the flaps and gear may mean that we won't ever see a P-8 or E-7. I would love to be wrong though and lets face it if we had been told 3 years ago that we would have the models available now we would have been surprised and bitten peoples hands off.

I just have to hope that somebody feels strongly enough about the lack of those models to embark on them.

True, pity as the P-8 is going to be in service around the world as the replacement to the P-3.
