Active Sky

Hey!
I'm still flying under FS2004, and I'm satisfied with the program.
What do MAIW pilots do, when they see that one after the other the addon programs to FS2004 disappear or refuse to work under FS2004.
I have now the problem of Active Sky, which is/was an excellent weatherprogram. and that program does no longer work with FS2004, it seems that the manufacturer does no longer support the program.
I guess that other programs will sooner or later also refuse to work with FS2004.
Bow, is there anybody who knows a good alternative for Active Sky, so that I can again have the local weather everywhere on the world?

+1 for FSRealWX Lite (it's a little hard to find the download on his website, but it is there)

I switched from Activesky for the same reason, looked around at payware and freeware options available and settled on FSRealWX Lite :)

The file is called: fsrealwx_lite_setup.zip (FSrealWX v1.07.1522) and if you can't find it I can help :)

Wo!
I found that FSRealWX Lite, downloaded and installed it, however...
- I can start the program, but there is not a reaction as what I expect.
- it says at the bottom of the opening screen "not connected"
- for the Metar it says "waiting for FS
- when I activate FS9 nothing happens
- when I push the Start button it seems to start and search for the right Metar, but nothing more happens
- when I push the WX ICAO button it seems to search more metars, and ends telling "Send Station to FS via FSUIPC" and nothing more
...in one word: I don't know how to start the program
What could it be that I do wrong?

What I just found is that if you start FS and load an airfield then activate FSrealWx lite then it works just fine. What you may find is that in locations where there are several 100 airfields to load weather for you may get AI using your default winds rather than the actual winds and so you need to hit the refresh AI button.

If you start FSrealWx lite first nothing happens until you start FS9.Then you get some connection stuff to fsuipc. Only when you select an airfield and load do you get the local metars download an applied. Again depending on the number of metars being downloaded and applied you might have to refresh AI.

Basically its automatic.

Hey!
I guess that the 'connection stuff' does not work in my case....
Wherever I go, it is Always same weather and 'not connected'.
Do I need an extra connection software, like simconnect or so, or some other?
I can do several things, but Always it keeps telling 'not connected' like when I open the program....

For FS9 all you need is FSUIPC.

I don't remember setting it up but just in case, I have attached my ini file and you are most welcome to backup yours and try mine as a replacement.

I always get not connected until the airfield has chosen has started loading, then it changes to 'FS2004 - FSUIPC-ver: 3.999'

The connection is not to the internet but to fsuipc. If you haven't got that installed it won't connect.

Hey!
Since EBAW is my favorite airport, I always prefer to styart at EBAW.
Maybe, because there is "No TEF available" , it loads only some location data, and not really the weather. Could that be a reason Why it does not work in my system?
My ini-file is almost similar to tours, a few of the values are different, and I have also FSUIPC 3.999z, registered as well.

It is possible that EBAW does not have a weather station and that is the problem. I have been trialing at one of Brent's airfields (02AZ) and it works perfectly.
Try starting at EBBE and see what happens.

Hey!
Apart from a message that was given bij the program, telling that FSUIPC was not suited for FS9.1.exe becauase it has been installed for FS9.exe, and that no version FS9.1.exe was found, I got several other messages, which make me think that something is wrong with FSUIPC.
I will first clean and re-install FSUIPC and then come back and tell what happened. But I'll need a few days because I've a few other things to do first.

Why have you got an exe called FS9.1.exe ?
The 9.1 upgrade exe was still called FS9.exe and so if you renamed it for safe keeping then yes that would cause problems.

If you are keeping the original as a backup rename that to FS9_0.exe and rename FS9.1.exe to FS9.exe.

Maybe this is what is causing your ActiveSky issue as well.

Hey!
I have tried several different weather programs, inclusive FSMetar, FSrealWX, REX, but none ot them gives me the weather like it was before with Active Sky. None of them worked in my FS9 system. The best I can have now is the FS2004 internally set of real weather updating every 15 minutes. That is how I work now....
Switching to another system like FSX or P3D or whatever, I don't like, because I have almost 1.5TB of software, sceneries and addon programs and aircraft, for FS9 and to start again to collect software for a new system, I do not like anymore, I'm not very young anymore. For the moment I don't see else than to continue with what I have, and I will more go towards military flights from MAIW, they have a lot of very nice sceneries al even more splendid aircraft!....

Have you tried renaming your FS9.1.exe to FS9.exe?

*** UPDATE ***

To verify what Jamie has said I tried ASv6.5 and found that it worked OK. The problem is either that you don't have an FS9.exe or that your registry entry for FS9 is corrupted.

FSUIPC will only talk to FS9.exe ActiveSky and FSRealWx talk to FSUIPC only. Your FS9 exe can't be called anything else.

Not to pile on, but the FS9 weather servers have been shut down for years now. Using the internal FS9 updating weather won't do anything. You will just get the last weather settings for ever.

Hey!
I'm sorry for all the troubles I did to you, but I have the solution for my problem....
Just a few days before I've seen that the weather was no longer working in my FS9, that was on october 9th, my FSUIPC.dll has been, for a reason that I cannot explain, modified. The date and the bytes, it is only an hour ago that I've seen so, have been modified. I've now replaced that corrupted dll by the Original ons, introduced again the correct register data and you know? When I activated my FS9 the weather was working again, using Active Sky 6.5, which is what I have. Maybe all other weather programs that I tried do still work also!
So, sorry again, but I can confirm now that Avtive Sky is still working correctly and the weather servers seem still to work and send the data to the FS9 system....
So, I'm very happy, everything is fine again.
About what happened with my FSUIPC.dll, I really don't know what....
Thank you anyhow for all your efforts in trying to help me.
