Way Station Incirlik:The latest increment of airmen deployed to the 385th Air Expeditionary Group headquartered at Incirlik AB, Turkey, have flown 1,800 sorties for a total of 3,600 hours, hauled 65.6 million pounds of cargo, and off-loaded 21 million pounds of fuel over the course of four months. SSgt. Jeff Nevison reports that the group comprises the 90th Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron, rotationally staffed by Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve Command airmen who deploy from two weeks to 30 days and the 816th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron at Al Udeid AB, Qatar, and 817th EAS at Incirlik (with a detachment at Manas AB, Kyrgyzstan), manned by active duty airmen on 120-day tours. The reservists fly and maintain KC-135 tankers, and the active duty airmen fly and maintain C-17s. Since the creation of the 385th AEG at Incirlik about two years ago, units from Charleston AFB, S.C. and McChord AFB, Wash., have supplied the C-17 personnel and aircraft, but Stars and Stripesreports that McGuire AFB, N.J. will soon join that rotation.

We keep this pace up we will wear out all our equipment and have to rebuild or replace all of it. What I beginning to wonder is where is all this money going to come from? This war is going to cost more than Vietnam and accomplish about the same thing...

Does anyone know how many US soldiers serve outside the US in dangerous areas (such as Afghanistan or Iraq) ? Must be more than we (Germany) have in total (less than 300,000)... I sometimes wonder why the americans take this that easy and elect presidents that have sent so many of their own folks into the death. Perhaps I see this from a different side of view as we have a very bad history. We were blamed for millions of dead people in the WWII and it is a shame that this war was brought from the german territory all over the world. Did someone count the dead civilians and US soldiers caused by the presidents decisions ? It is right to help people when they are being killed for fighting for human rights and, yes, it is right to help a country fighting against a foreign aggressor. I do understand that 9/11 was probably the hardest day for the americans since Pearl Harbour. But I do not understand why the US play the role of the "World Police" thinking their law is valid everywhere. We do not have the death penalty here for so many reasons probably discussed in the US, too. We do not hijack people and put them into a cave somewhere where nobody asks for them. I assume you just have to go to Afghanistan and point on a guy on the street screaming "He is a Taliban!" in a front of some US soldiers and this guy will probably be removed from public for years. I feel very sorry for those soldiers (and their families) that left their lives somewhere far away from home. But as long as there is no loud voice in your country this senseless dying will go on. Where did you take part so far ? Europe ? Yeah, this was glorious. See what happened here: it is pretty peaceful now. But then came Vietnam and other places. Did someone really check out the situation there before going there ? There have been so many clans fighting for the power in the country. The russians left Afghanistan with no results. The situation went even worse there. I guess the same will happen again now. Ok, lets see who is next ? "Hey, we have got some old ammo here. Where can we place it ?" "Lets bring it to Iran." That is what it looks like from this side of the Atlantic Ocean.
Sorry guys, I wrote more and shared much more of my thoughts than I wanted. But this whole thing is really bothering me. I am glad the americans freed Europe but after that it moved into the wrong direction... I met so many nice people in the US all were welcoming a german although some could tell of grandfathers died in Europe. I simply cannot understand why the american nation let all this happen... Maybe someone can enlighten me.
