JYAI Airbus AS365 Dauphin

The AS365 Dauphin is in response to a request for the UK Air Ambulance version, specifically, The Great North Air Ambulance Service examples, but as you read on, you will see that I have made other variants too. These are the 3 air ambulances:

Image

The helicopters will form part of John B’s project for the UK emergency services. The two long-nosed N3’s are based together and differ slightly in the door and window arrangement. The short-nosed version is slightly earlier, has a different badging scheme and is based separately.

Also, from John, will be an additional offering of the 5 Army Air Corps (SAS) Dauphin’s based in Hereford in the UK. This is the blue example in the next screen shot and is deliberately kept inconspicuous to look like a typical commercial livery. In the same shot is the US Coast Guard MH-65E that is not part of any current project, but I wanted to make it anyway:

Finally, some French Navy examples – the AS565 Panther, the short-nosed SA365N and the long-nosed SA365F:

The French inventory of Dauphin’s is quite difficult to scope because of the different version numbers and paint schemes over time. I think what I have made is representative. There is a further squadron (34F) of 8 short-nosed AS365s in the anti-submarine role that have the same two-tone grey camo scheme as the Panther. I haven’t made those for reasons given at the end of this post.

Here are some air-to-air shots of all the Dauphin’s in the package:

Scenery and flight plans for the Air Ambulances and SAS models are in hand with John B. The US Coast Guard MH-65E is more of a challenge because Scramble lists 99 of them, scattered all around the USA. I have painted the model as an Elizabeth City example (I think they have 5) so users can potentially add them to the USCG C-130 Elizabeth City package I put together in 2019.

The SA365N’s, SA365F1’s and AS565 Panthers, are based at Hyères (LFTH) near Toulon in the south of France, but are usually dispersed to other airfields for rescue duties, or aboard ships. The default FSX and P3D scenery is reasonable, but Google Earth imagery is blurred out making it difficult to determine where the helicopters park. The 8 AS365’s in the anti-submarine role are based at Lanvéoc/Poulmic, Brittany in NW France. The default scenery is just a runway and again the GE imagery is blurred out. I don’t really want to get bogged down with scenery, so I think I will leave it to users to make use of the French examples as they wish.

Next job for me is to add the two LODs to all the models. I’ll then get the Air Ambulance and SAS versions to John before uploading the helicopter package.

Great model, as usual.

Thanks John.

Here are some info about the French Marine Dauphin : http://www.ffaa.net/helicopters/dauphin/dauphin_fr.htm

The 0001 was a little different (but only one, not interesting to produce it for the sim)

Very nice! They look really good. Isn't the Coast Guard retiring their Dauphins?

Wonderful model. I'm working on the GNAAS bases at the moment.

Next will be Credenhill barracks for FSX. I've done the SBS Poole base which they visit regularly

Yes, moving to an all MH-60T fleet. I'm sure it will take time with the D/E somewhat recently added to USCG service.

Another amazing rotor project JY!

I don't think so. I'm working on the HH-60W at the moment and probably the Grey Wolf after that.

If I could only get custom AI sounds to work with helicopter models in P3D, the Fenestron tailrotor has a very unique sound when flying overhead.

P3D won't know it's a helicopter Chris. What makes it a helicopter is the animated lift in the model. All forward motion is controlled by a conventional FDE, in this case a type 5 turboprop. Is it the case then, that any Fenestron sound you have found is set up as a helicopter and therefore not compatible with a turboprop?

Thanks and I will re-visit the sounds, I run the massive AIG AI sound pack for all jet models. A small bit of immersion going to a large fighter base and hearing jets roar (ex: your F-15Es at LN). A few years ago I was looking at changing the NBAI CH-47s to get their iconic blade slap (sounds available for flyable model). I fly the Cerasim HH-65, so I have the sounds to alias.

Just curious, how are these coming along? Are they still being worked on? Are they done?

PS: I just asked if they were done because you seemed to have moved on to the Jolly Green helicopters.

They are done, but release is waiting on the UK Emergency Services package that VulcanDriver is working on. It's why I made the Dauphins. The others in the pack are a bonus.

Was there a specific variant in the pack that you are waiting to use and if so, how will you be setting them up? I could get you that model to you early so that you can do that.

Hello John,

I'm guessing that with your Microsoft problems, you never got around to finalizing this Airbus AS365 project? I can't find it in the Hangar.
Have a good Sunday.
