Installing MAIW packages in P3D

I have a few scenery files for FSX installed in P3D but for some r3ason I get this when I installed Osan AB. What gives?

What I do in such cases (and also for FS9 sceneries) is that I open the scenery in ADE, recompile it to P3D, and then if there are buildings "lying around" like in your screenshot, create a .CVX file - an exclusion, so as to keep autogen away, and also flatten if necessary.

Also I take the opportunity to use ADE's "Fault Finder" to correct any obvious errors.

So a couple of things here...

1. Depending on which version of P3d you are using, it may or may not respect the exclude (cxv) files... In V5 and beyond this is a well-known issue of not respecting the excludes, (been brought up many times on the LM forums; LM has done nothing to fix it... and the only forum responses we get are from his royal annoyingness, the most famous know nothing super fan himself, Martyson... nothing from the real LM staff..) which means you have to open the airport in ADE 1.79, import the stock objects for that airport (tools ->load stock data->scenery objects), then one by one delete the stock objects, and re-compile the airport after the deletion...

2. I would recommend downloading the simple airport scanner from here https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threa ... ta.440300/ although it says it only goes up to V4 you can point it to your V5 scenery.cfg file and get some functionality out of it that way... This will allow you to check for conflicting or duplicate AFCADS and list airports by ICAO identifier....

3. Go into your P3d directories through window explorer and use the search function and just type in the ICAO identifier and see what .bgl files pop up, you may locate conflicts that way...

There is actually a duplivate airport scanner now that works up to P3D v. 6 included in Lorby SI's Prepar3d Addon Organizer.

In the Addon Organizer, go to Tools, and there it is. The output is a comma-separated file (.csv) that I open with Notepad++.

As for the cvx files, nothing is going to happen from L-M with P3D v. 5 at least, I don't know about v. 6...

Dealing with this from day one of P3Dv5, as many changes to scenery took place. I'm assuming v6 followed on the v5 method, so you will have a few additional steps to get FSX/P3D AFDs to display properly including older MAIW packages. ADE is your friend and there is a conversion article here on MAIW, I also use a method found on the AIG forums. You should be able to find conversions in the forums, some of our scenery gurus probably have it down, but they can't distribute AFD files without original author sign off at times. I didn't see any benefit updating to v6 from my current v5.3 install, especially with the lack of Lock-Mart support.

I am going to need help finding these first before anything.

For the first issue: in a subfolder in your ADE installation named "FSX", there should be a file named "bglcomp.exe". If there isn't one, search your system for it, and then copy it to that folder.

You might also have to reinstall your FSX SDK - actually, I would do that first of all, so the registry points to the right place.

For the second issue, in Windows, go to Settings, then to Personalization, then Fonts, and install the font mentioned.

If you encounter more issues, you know where to post. :D

For P3D I would recommend installing the SDK for the relevant version of your sim from the P3D website (as I recall they are on the same page as the main downloads, but am not sure) rather than the FSX one. Then run the setup wizard and navigate to the folders for the files it needs to access.

This is what I get when I try to compile the scenery.

I suggest that you compile it to a folder outside program files-maybe into your documents somewhere or another convenient location, and then move it to where it needs to be.

How do I create a .CVX file? That is something that I have never made before.

Mostly, it is done automatically by ADE when you compile if you have added an exclusion or terrain polygon to the airport you are working on (for example, an airport background or an object exclusion).

You make a polygon (icon for that is on the icon bar) around the object/airport of the size you imagine it should be ( it takes a couple of tries to get the hang of it).

Basically, you put your mouse cursor where one of the corners of the polygon should be, click there (single-click) move the cursor to where the second corner should be (youll see the cursor pulling a line after it), click there, move the cursor to the next corner etc etc, until you come to the last corner - the line the cursor has pulled after it now forms the polygon. At that last corner, double-click, and you'll get an options menu containing what should go on inside the polygon.

Like I said, it takes a couple of tries to get the hang of it, but then it's easy. And you can always do it over, until you're happy with it.

So do I need to go to the base in P3D and make note of where I need to make the polygon? Or do I just make one big one to cover the runway?

You open the AFCAD in ADE, and make a polygon around it - as small or large as you see fit, runway or the whole airfield.

I use it some to get rid of autogen trees on the runways.

can you direct me to a good app to take photos of my projects? Mine does not seem to want to work anymore.

Either I did something wrong, or it did not work. Buildings are still there.

You might want to experiment with the options you see when you double-click after making the polygon.

Like I said earlier, it takes a little getting used to.

And if (God forbid) you ever have to reinstall P3D, do install it somewhere outside the reach of UAC, like into a folder you create yourself not under the default folders, and preferably on a drive different from C:.

Mine is on H:\P3D V5
