Do those QF-4s really fly all day and night, 7 days a week?

Posted: 15 Oct 2007, 14:00
by MIKE JG
I don't think they fly much at all after being certified as drones. To each his own however. Mine just sit there all day, every day as static scenery. I have one from Holloman that flies one time a week, that's it. At Tyndall, same thing, one QF-4, once a week on a straight out flight into the Gulf for it's ultimate destruction. I don't think they keep the wing tanks or weapons on them either, hence why I hid them with reflective textures.

Thanks Flyboy, Now I'll have company for my drone flights from those bases.

After installing these fp's...I have come to realize that I don't have an AFCAD for KPAM....
Would someone be so kind as to pass one to me please...
TIA,
KJ

I only have the one for the Alphasim Payware. It is really a great package and well worth the money. Gives you KPAM and the Aux airfield, Plenty of F-22 AI.

I normally only have them fly once or twice a week and usually on conjunction with an E-9A and a couple of F-22As or F-15s out of TY.

I don't really pay to too much attention to them out of Holloman.

Remember that there is a manned QF4 version that flies with an electronic scoring pod. They depart from the main base at Tyndall. We had one crash while I was at Tyndall. The pilot ejected about 75 feet off the ground and made it. Some are parked on the main ramp but most of the "extra" Qs are parked on the old abandoned runways.

The unmanned QF4s depart from the drone runway (it is out in the middle of Tyndall by itself for safety reasons). The Qs taxi about 2 miles from the main base to get to the drone runway. (If you look at Google Earth you can see the connecting taxiways) It is fun watching them taxi thru the woods to get there.

The unmanned are normally tasked when they have a live missile shoot. The manned flew all the time.

A good combination would be the E-9 (it is used for range safety to clear out and monitor all marine traffic)), a pair of F-15s/F-22s and the QF4s.

The E-9 would be up first to clear the range. Then the QF4 would launch from the drone runway (only towards the South out over the Gulf, due to safety concerns. We dropped a few into the Gulf on take off too.) Last the the killer pair would be up when the QF4 is on station to.

Only time I remember a lot of QFs flying in one day was during "William Tell".

I have attached my KPAM AFCAD....

I have them do exactly as described above except I don't have them launch from the drone runway.

Would it be possible to get the unmanned drones to taxi to the aux. field? Is it possible to get them to do that or is it out of the question. I'm thinking that you'd have to have 2 AFCAD's for it to work. Here's a quick thought of mine:

KPAM AFCAD; includes just the runways/parking for the operation AC's of TY only.
2PAM AFCAD; includes the 53rd parking spaces & old runways that QF-4's park on @ TY, the long taxi-way to the Drone Field & the whole drone base.

My thinking behind this is that when viewed in FS9 it would look as if one complete base but for AI purposes we could assign the drones to one airfield & the manned drones to another. Good or bad idea?

2PAM AFCAD; includes the 53rd parking spaces & old runways that QF-4's park on @ TY, the long taxi-way to the Drone Field & the whole drone base.

My thinking behind this is that when viewed in FS9 it would look as if one complete base but for AI purposes we could assign the drones to one airfield & the manned drones to another. Good or bad idea?
Off the top of my head, I would think you could go either way. Either make one AFCAD for both KPAM and aux. airfield or make two AFCADS, one of each one but it would like it overlapped.

I hadn't thought about the over lapping......when I was at Tyndall I know I saw several drones over @ 2PAM but they were parked at the ramp there. I was under the impression that the drones that parked on the old runways were in-op & write-offs. if this is the case the they could be included in the KPAM AF2 & 2PAM could include the unmanned versions that park @ TY & the drone base, this way we don't get over lapping.

You guys should all pool your creativity on this one and put a little package together.

I think it is pretty much 'plug and play' at this point. The AFCADS, Aircraft and Flight Plans are all in this thread. Just a matter of assembling the pieces. May need a few tweaks but it looks good so far.

I only have the one for the Alphasim Payware. It is really a great package and well worth the money. Gives you KPAM and the Aux airfield, Plenty of F-22 AI.
Thank you sir,
but I prefer not to do business with certain companies that will remain nameless. :D
So if anyone has a FREEWARE afcad they'd like to share, please send it my way if you don't mind.
