Arrived late last night in EDDV coming from LOWW. I have seen a military variant of the L-1011 which could have been from the British Air Force. It was parked close to the Terminal C. It was too dark to take a picture with my cell phone and too far away to read the registration. Does anybody know what this a/c is doing here? Seemed that it just arrived minutes before me (around 23:00 GMT). May have been this aircraft http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1276007/M/ as it was seen here late September.

RAF L1011 use hannover on an almost daily basis along with VC10 and C130 to support the resident Army units in germany which are deployed like any other units to Afghanistan and Iraq. Should be several more in there this week as units are changing over.

Thanks Cliffie. Thought that this could be the reason. It was nice to see that old tripple-engine bird here. Unfortunatly they are very rare now.

And will get rarer as more British troops are withdrawn from Germany.

Unfortunatly you are right. One day all these old birds will be grounded and scrapped or pulled into a museum. It brings my thougths back to the Navy (1994-2000) days when some older aircrafts were still flying around which I now havent seen since years: B707, Starfighters, etc. There are other interesting aircrafts that will disappear in the next few years.
