This makes two in just a very short time. Gosh, the great ones from yesteryear are really going fast. These were some of the very best US fighter pilots of WWII. They always brought the 'big friends' home and many owe their lives to these guys. May they rest in peace and may they be long remembered! I was very privileged to see these guys at various airshows in the past 10 or so years.

Edit: Read about the other recently past on hero:

We have several of the Vets here in Omaha. Our Model club built a display of their aircraft several years ago. They sometimes show up at the Base Exchange selling some commemorative items for their association.

I hope they are getting the support now. Lord knows they didn't get it back when they should have. If I was there at the BX when they were I'd buy whatever they had, and shake a few hands, and if they were willing get a grip n grin pic. We still owe these guys a little extra!

Their local chapter is very active here in Omaha. They frequently hold some kind of meeting or commemoration. The local paper gives them much deserved publicity. Sadly some of the events are funerals.
