I have a few C-130 folders and 2 of them have over 100 entries in them (one has 145 entries). Is the a limit to the number of aircraft paints you can have?

Rumor has it that the wall is at 200 entries. Thus you should only enter 199.
I have several files with well over 200 but have not taken the time to confirm them.

In my AI F-16C I have 272 entries with no problems

Scott,
Thanks very much.
Now I don't have to split all those textures out...lol.

I found out by trial and error, I noticed that when I can combine as many aircraft type by folder, FS loads faster, so when MAIW comes out with a new package I do a manual install and put new textures in existing folders.

Thank guys. It looks like I don't have to make more C-130 folders yet. (I have two folders for each C-130 type. Plus seprate folders for the ANG C-130's)

I was in the process of combining all my C130's, F16's and F15's but I stopped at 200 b/c I was under the impression that aircraft with numbers higher than 200 will not show up in the sim.

If that's not true then I can get to combining files and open up a wee bit of space.

I think it was tested by UltimateGA, and they had found out that aircraft number 200 and above did not always show in FS. There was no pattern in when they did or didn't so UGA never used [fltsim.200] or above and it seemed to work.

I never go over 199 for that reason.

A while ago I found that certain aircraft no longer appeared when they were in a folder where the aircraft.cfg file contained more than 200 hundred entries. This included a HTAI F-16 folder. Since then I have stopped at the 200 limit, i.e. 0 - 199.

I do have folders with over 200 aircraft in and they seem fine. My personal belief is that if there is a limit its likely to be programming based rather than an arbitrary number, so I think its likely to be 255.

So what I do is when I get close I break it up into logical chunks, e.g. USAF F-16C, USANG F-16C, Foreign F-16C etc. Its not ideal but its the best compromise that I have found.

Thanks guys. The only military AI I have that is close to 200 is the C-130H one folder (I have 2 C-130H folders) has 142 entries. I do have AI Cessna 550's and that folder has 192 entries. I will soon have to make a new folder for the Cessna 550.

I agree with Firebird. The limit is rather at 255 as I also do have folders exceeding 200 items. I encountered problems with AC with higher numbers not appearing. However i was able to trace the problem down to faulty sequence of [fltsim.nn]. FS seems to stop parsing as soon as there is a gap in the numbers. Since then I am using a great little utility called FSRenum.exe.

Simply copy the new items into your aircraft.cfg copy FSRenum exe into this folder run it and then move it back out. I keep FSRenum on my Desktop for easy access.
This tool takes care of correctly numbering the [fltsim.nn]. If I remember right i found this great little utility at ProjectAI.

Yes, it's a very useful utility, but you have to be careful that the new [fltsim.xx] entries you put in are syntactically correct. When I first got hold of this utility I couldn't for the life of me work out why it wasn't renumbering all items correctly but then I found that if you put in something like [Fltsim.xx] (notice the capital 'F') it won't process the file any further. All the [fltsim.xx] sections need to be in lower case.

What is interesting is that the program Aircraft Analyzer 2005 will tell you that aircraft at 200 and over are not in your setup...but when you go into the sim...there they are!

My aircraft #200 is "WoA_HTAI_F16C_USAF_SW_96-0085" out of Shaw AFB.

Aircraft Analyzer 2005 had a built in limit of 200 entries, it was not an FS limit. I believe there was an upgrade to extend the limit in ACA2005.

You are right, Graham.
Originally the 200 limit was there as it was perceived to be the FS9 limit, but subsequently its been proven not to be the case and the latest version has an option to either stick to 200 or ignore it..
